I was also wondering, what is the difference if i have a secondary fermentation adding the sugar to that, or bottle the beer once SG is constant and use carbonation drops ie secondary fermentation in the bottle?

which is better and why? I think for this batch ill bottle ferment with the carbo drops until i get a bit more education on secondaries and racking etc...
if by the above your talking about bulkpriming...the advantages are that cane sugar is cheap...
real cheap...its reliable and by bulkpriming you save heaps of hassle ...speeds up your bottling time and ensures an even mixture of carbonating sugar throughout your bottled beer...
as for carb drop ...i don't know have never used them...

Until you have brewed over 100 brews (approx 2000 litres) {I'm not there yet} you won't have the beer palet to taste any difference.

I reckon thats crap, my 2nd and 3rd (Which was a reattempt at the second) brews were fermented too warm (as per the instructions on the kit) and were unpalatable. I think its their way to make you give up homebrewing and buy their commercial stuff again. As soon as I got temperature control my beers improved tenfold.
 
i agree with sammus when i first started brewing kits the best thing i ever did was make sure the brew temp never exceeded 22C. heaps better!

yeah simple i sounded like he was confused with bulk priming.
the carb drops are ok, but their ONLY advantage imo is ease of measurement. i got a small medicine cup thing which i measured 6g sugar (average dose for 750mls) leveled it off then used a knife to cut it down so that my scoops are consistant to .5g usually. makes bottling a breeze.. :)
 
:beer: Ok so after having 3 days SG at 1.012, I bottled my brew last night.

Added 2 carbo drops to every long neck that came in the kit, and stored the bottles in a box in the bottom of my cupboard- woohoo!! cant wait to crack open the 1st one. It tasted really good after SG readings, and can imagine on a nice hot summer day sinking many of them with mates.

Anyway Ive sanitised everything and mixed up a can of canadian blonde with BE1. I added it to 2L of boiled water then stirred it for 3 mins in the fermenter. After filling to 23L there was a nice foam on the top of the brew. Took an OG=1.042. After pitching at around 18C, the foam settled quite a bit. is that OG ok?
