My thermometer died mid brew yesterday, reading all "l" as the temp, tried new battery, hitting, swearing all to no avail.

Just lifted the skirt and it had a broken wire from the probe to the PCB pad indicated by the screwdriver in the pic.

Cables are wedding prick stiff Chinesium and flapping in the breeze and also have a fair range of movement when opening / closing the probe (be aware of this BEFORE YOU GLUE THEM DOWN).

Resolder and some hot snot about the place and all good again.

In hindsight I should have pulled the main board out and applied some coating to waterproof somewhat as it is not conformally coated. Probably a good idea for longevity.

Anyway, some 2min preventative maintenance if you own one. Silicone would work too bit takes a lot longer to cure.

Apart from the obvious build shortcomings and early death, has been a great little unit.

Cheers.

A hot glue gun! This makes you a genuine craftsman.
Good tip with the glue to stop it reoccurring.
I might have to do the same with a baby monitor that's had a few similar issues.
