I have a couple of other questions following on from takka's thread "Sterilising Bottle Caps"

1. Anyone know what the sealing ring in the crown caps is made of (silicon, or something else??)

2. Is the seal liable to suffer any degradation after having ben sterilized (say after 6 months to a year) ? After all sterilizers like oneshot are acid based. Any thoughts ?

Cheers,
Crow

I'm not sure of the materials used, however over time they do lose their seal. We're talking over a period of years here though.

If you're looking to make beers to be aged, use a cork, cap and wax dip the cap too. Make sure its a beer cork though and not a wine cork!

That should be good for aging 20+ years.
