I've got some 48lt tubs Siborg and I generally can't get a whole bag into one of those. You may go close with wheat malt. I use 80lt tubs for my base malts and a bag goes in easy.

hmm funny you say that. I get just over 5kg of specialty barley malts into my 9L tubs just fine with around 1cm of headroom to play with. Are you sure the tubs are acutally 48L? By my calcs you should get over 28kg into 48L. for my base malt however ive got a willow plastic rubbihs bin @ 60L, fits around 1 1/3 - 1 1/2 bags of grain~

I just checked one of the containers, marked dimensions works out at 82 lts, sticker says 48 lts and contents of Munich malt about 90% full is 19.5 kgs.
Siborg, what ever you buy don't get them from Supercheap Autos!

Nah, I saw some 50-60 l containers at bunnings for 12-15 bucks. Need to decide what to get. It's between the round garbage bins, mini wheelie bins and the standard rectangular containers.

They had the same white tubs, without the uber-cool Coleslaw branding, in at Bunnings for about $12 each. I bought a couple before seeing them in at the chicken shop.

The advantage they have over the garbage bins, even though they're smaller, is they're water-proof, pretty much air-tight, and most importantly, critter-proof.

yeah the willow bins are good but not sealed tight, merely clip on.

However i'd be shocked if somehow a mousey squeezed inside but anything is possible i guess. Especially if they have suction cups on ther feet and mini C4 to blow the lid off.

Or... Ninjamouse

I used to store them in big square plastic tubs, but then I got lazy.
Now they are piled on the floor with pegs to keep the tops rolled over and shut.
Given they are inside and so is the cat, its not really much of a problem with mice and no sign of any other bugs - so all good so far.

yeah the willow bins are good

I have 8 of these bad boys (in black not green) and they're great - a 60L which you can pick up cheap from Bunnings fits a 25kg bag of grain nice and snug (keep grain in the bag). Tucked away in a dark part of the brew shed I've had grain keep well in them for over a year. No Mickey Mouses have been able to get into mine either.

If anyone is pondering storage I recommend them.

Hopper.

to be honest I saw em today and was considering it. Looks like I'll go with that. Also means I don't have to empty the whole bags I am ordering. I'll get something smaller for spec grains

I use 48L rectangular plastic containers for my grains. About $12 from bunnings.

Grain Pick Up

To be up front, the easiest option from my standpoint is to collect the entire order, drag it home and then distribute as planned. Given that I will be responsible for everyone's grain until the point it's handed it over, I'm really really careful that nothing goes wrong or that there's a mix up. The last thing I want is to let anyone down and bear in mind this is the first time I'm running a BB. Hence the KISS approach: one pallet, forklifted onto the trailer at the warehouse, strapped down and towed home, where it can be sorted at a leisurely pace. Simple and uncomplicated.

If anyone is really stuck and unable to either make it for the 15th or arrange a pickup on their behalf, that's no problem. I'm happy to accommodate within reason - PM me and we can arrange a suitable time.

In case anyone is unsure, Strathmore is on the city side of Essendon Airport. If that's a bit way out for anyone, and they wish to pull out of this BB, possibly with a view of joining a subsequent BB, then that's totally understandable.

For those that do make it to Strathmore on the 15th, it will be good to put some faces to their names and I'm sure I'll be able to shout you a beer - if ya like?

Cheers

Stubbie is it too late to bail out?

If its too late thats fine I'll dip into another account but I'd rather not if I can avoid it.

Perhaps contact these members who wanted to be on a waiting list if you want to keep the numbers up?

17. Mitternacht Brauer - 1 x Bairds Peated Distilling malt (medium)
18. christmasbender - 1 x TF Maris Otter

i'm still interested in one bag of maris otter if you can change komodo's order

Right,

Komodo. No probs re pulling out. Sorry to hear about your predicament. I understand. When it comes to vet bills, think of a reasonable fee......and then add a zero

christmasbender. You're in, as is Mitternacht Brauer. Of course, this will all be clear just as soon as I darn well work out how to attach the spreadsheet. BTW Ross has confirmed everything on the latest BB list is available.

Standby for more detail re Pick Up address and payment (via pm).

Stubbie.

Now that the minor technical difficulties have been dealt with, here's the BB list as it stands.

I have double checked the details, but should anyone find any errors, please let me know asap.

One more point. I'm drinking an American Wheat Rye atm, and lovin' it, so much so I just had to get some Rye. It's available as a split if anyone is interested?
