G'Day!
I have some left over grain from a brew a while ago sitting in the cupboard.
(approx figures)
410g Pilsner Malt
200g Caramunich
115g Munich type I
60g Pale wheat malt
Any ideas?
Is it worth doing a mini mash (I'm a BIABer) with whats left over?
I have Amarillo, PoR, and Chinook in the freezer, plus a good supply of US-05, but was going to have a go at culturing some yeast from a coopers stubbie for this one.
Cheers
Mitch :)

Edit: Hey! post #100!!

Like IPA's? Put some unhopped malt extract with this (minimash) aim for OG 1.060 bitter to 50 using Chinook some late Amarillo

Screwy

Love IPA's. I'm fairly new to AG, and maths isn't one of my strengths ;)
So how much of each would you recommend? And I'll need a little help with a hop schedule (I should have named this topic 'Design a recipe for me, because i'm a dunce and don't really know what's going on').
Cheers

Something like this should work:

American IPA. Partial Mash
22.00 L
OG: 1.060 SG

400g LDME
2 x 1.7Kg tins of unhopped Light Malt Extract
410g Pilsner
200g Caramunich
120g Munich Type I
60g Wheat Malt
22g Chinook AA12% 60 min 35 IBU
25g Amarillo AA8.2% 20 min 9 IBU
10g Amarillo AA8.2% 0 min
1 Pk Fermentis US - 05 Yeast

Mini Mash
60 min @ 66 Deg (2.5 L of water at 78 C)

I'd agree but swap the unhopped for hopped kits (Coopers lager perhaps) so you don't need an hour boil and get good bitterness from the kits then add chinook and amarillo together at 20 and 0 pretty much as shown above. 20 minute boil...easy. Actually I'm doing something similar on the weekend in an old 20 litre pot just to get something in the fermenter while doing a full mash Mild outside on the main rig
