I know I'm preaching to the converted.....however.....

Just cracked the top off my first AG batch, and OMG how good is this! IT's only been in the damn bottle for a week and it tastes just great.

All those extract beers that I have brewed and waited months so that they tasted good enough, and this sh!ts over all of 'em in a week.

apologise for getting all excited and all, but the missus just wouldn't understand and I had to tell somebody!

don't worry - we always love seeing an extract brewer move to the dark side...(more people for bulk buy :) )
 
Here's a question for you....what do I do with the 45 or so tallies of K&K and extract brews that are still sitting in the garage? I couldn't drink them now could I? Gonna need some bottles for all of these planned brews right? :icon_cheers:

You will, no doubt, at some stage have some people that comee over to your house for an occasion that requires beer. You may, may not have enough all grain beer for everyone. You then ask everyone if they want some of your home made beer - there will be one person who will say 'eewww, home brew - thats disgusting'. The other people will drink and enjoy your homebrew. If at any point throughout the night that one person who turned his nose up at home brew wants to try a beer - you will be glad that you kept your K&K beers in storage for him. More AG for you, less of the beer being wasted on morons.

Yep, nice one Phil....and I already know who they are. :beerbang: righto...half on the lawn and half down the back of the garage for the swillers
 
Ditch all the K@K [only had a few] ditch most of the extract [this took me ages to do] only the stout and a wheat were Ok after tasting every one after AG,the Grumpys ones were some I kept, this is over 4 years ago[ spat most out], bought kegs and the required gear for AG .
Power on from there with AG, simple.

Wish someone converted me earlier too, prior to 25 brews into it. All hail brew 26!
 
Paddo keep some of your old stock,it makes a great marinade,beer batter ect.
Even in a pinch,due to lack of production or god forbid an infection or two,something to drink in an emergency :D
 
Yeah, yeah... just remember VB is also an "all-grain" brew...

Welcome :) I was never happy with Kit beers and as numerous people have remarked after drinking my AG "Jeez there's no homebrew taste, is there??". No, no there isn't. :)

Try 30% sugar.

I think Caleb meant that VB is made by mashing grain (yes, in additon to the cane sugar) as opposed to buying malt extract produced by a third party as is the case for 'extract brewing'. He is correct in saying there are beers that are mashed (as opposed to using dry or liquid extract) that are very ordinary indeed. There are many commercial and homebrewed all-grain/mash beers that are less than inspiring. I wonder if people ever get the impression that as soon as they start mashing then great beer is guaranteed.
