I think Caleb meant that VB is made by mashing grain (yes, in additon to the cane sugar) as opposed to buying malt extract produced by a third party as is the case for 'extract brewing'. He is correct in saying there are beers that are mashed (as opposed to using dry or liquid extract) that are very ordinary indeed. There are many commercial and homebrewed all-grain/mash beers that are less than inspiring. I wonder if people ever get the impression that as soon as they start mashing then great beer is guaranteed.
Yes, exactly. So, what do you call a beer made with a full-mash, but additions of sugar? There seems to be an assumption that everyone who mashes is by definition doing an all-malt beer. Is that the case or does anyone do a.....
Full-Mash + Kilo (of sugar)
Just joking. I mean, seriously it's great that you can do a full mash for your beers. I'm actually amazed that there seem to be so many people going to such trouble to brew a quality product. It's truly inspiring.
But - were your kit/extract beers THAT bad you want to tip them all out? Wow....
Maybe leave them out for local homeless alcos... :icon_drool2:
That kind of reminds me of a day when a filthy, stinking, rag wearing homeless bum stumbled up to one of my friends.
"Hey mate, got a spare smoke?" - he slurs.
"Sure", responds my friend, producing a packet of Alpine 1mg menthol cigarettes.
"Ohhh... nah don't worry mate" he grunts, shuffling off...
I can see it now -
"Oh wow - free grog!"

"Mmmm, it's got that 'kit twang' doesn't it..."
