Here's a question for you....what do I do with the 45 or so tallies of K&K and extract brews that are still sitting in the garage? I couldn't drink them now could I? Gonna need some bottles for all of these planned brews right? :icon_cheers:

congratulations for going all grain, hope i can one day,, BUT if you had made your knk beers properly in the first place you would still be able to drink them and enjoy them as well

Ditch all the K@K [only had a few] ditch most of the extract

Good advice\? advice.

Ditch the K&K.

Keep all your extract for making up starters that you haven't planned for.

You could (Theoretically) use your K&K's to make up starters too but that should be a last resort IMHO.

I think Caleb meant that VB is made by mashing grain (yes, in additon to the cane sugar) as opposed to buying malt extract produced by a third party as is the case for 'extract brewing'. He is correct in saying there are beers that are mashed (as opposed to using dry or liquid extract) that are very ordinary indeed. There are many commercial and homebrewed all-grain/mash beers that are less than inspiring. I wonder if people ever get the impression that as soon as they start mashing then great beer is guaranteed.

Yes, exactly. So, what do you call a beer made with a full-mash, but additions of sugar? There seems to be an assumption that everyone who mashes is by definition doing an all-malt beer. Is that the case or does anyone do a.....
Full-Mash + Kilo (of sugar) :p

Just joking. I mean, seriously it's great that you can do a full mash for your beers. I'm actually amazed that there seem to be so many people going to such trouble to brew a quality product. It's truly inspiring.

But - were your kit/extract beers THAT bad you want to tip them all out? Wow....

Maybe leave them out for local homeless alcos... :icon_drool2:

That kind of reminds me of a day when a filthy, stinking, rag wearing homeless bum stumbled up to one of my friends.
"Hey mate, got a spare smoke?" - he slurs.
"Sure", responds my friend, producing a packet of Alpine 1mg menthol cigarettes.
"Ohhh... nah don't worry mate" he grunts, shuffling off...

I can see it now -

"Oh wow - free grog!"

"Mmmm, it's got that 'kit twang' doesn't it..."

Thanks TP....it's great to be here

I know I'm preaching to the converted.....however.....

Just cracked the top off my first AG batch, and OMG how good is this! IT's only been in the damn bottle for a week and it tastes just great.

All those extract beers that I have brewed and waited months so that they tasted good enough, and this sh!ts over all of 'em in a week.

apologise for getting all excited and all, but the missus just wouldn't understand and I had to tell somebody!

I know what it is like. Been twelve months since I made my last kit beer. Mind you I don't have an issue with kits but I find it more satisfying from my perspective to say "I made that" It is also an eye opener when people call round and find out that there is an art to making beer.
