Folks

Days off my first AG. Just one quick question......what is a good starting point to use for mash efficiency in Promash? My set-up is an eletric urn HLT and cooler mash tun with braid manifold, I am going to be batch sparging.

Cheers

Pete

70% would be a good starting point, if you want to be really sure 65% might be better with some forgiveness. I batch sparge and on the weekend with a 1.5hr mash at 62C to 70C (30mins at 62, 1hr at 70) i got over 75%, but you'll never know until you get a couple under your belt.

I'd agree with DJR that 65-70% should be about right. Don't forget that the batch size in Promash is the end of boil volume, the volume in your kettle rather than what's in your fermenter. You'll lose a few litres in that transfer so design your recipe for perhaps 5L above the amount you want to end up with in your fermenter.
