Hi,

I'm planning on making a batch of Little Fella's Pale Ale. However I'm a bit confused about what it's IBU is.

According to the recipe it's 62.1 however at the bottom of the recipe page it mentions 47.9. I put the recipe into BrewMate (as I want to do a 20L batch) and the IBU has come out as 55.6! Hmmm...

Is the recipe below right? If so, what's the final IBU meant to be?

Here's the BrewMate recipe:

You may want to PM Argon, who is the creator of this recipe.
The .bsm file he uploaded for everyone says to me 52.8 IBUs.

EDIT: I just realised mine has been slighly edited (subbed the EKG for more chinook). But 55.6 should be fine.

when i originally did it in Beersmith 1 it came out as 47.9. In Beersmith 2 with same equipment setup and process it comes out as 52.8... apparently because of a different calculation method relative to the knockout volume and losses, not quite sure.

Anyway... give it a try and report back in regards to the bitterness levels. From all other reports/feedback i've had it's not unbalanced.

I just did a 20L batch that I find perfectly balanced. This is the hopping schedule (no chill cube)

25g East Kent Goldings @ 60 minutes

10g Chinook @ 5 minutes
10g Cascade @ 5 minutes

15g Chinook in cube
15g Cascade in cube

25g Chinook ferment hop (hop tea or dry hop)
25g Cascade ferment hop (hop tea or dry hop)

15g Chinook (keg dry hop)
15g Cascade (key dry hop)

Only thing I found is that the hop tea method didn't give me much aroma compared to actually just dry hopping. Next time I'll probably just only dry hop in the fermenter and put the full amount in (40g Chinook, 40g Cascade)
