I don't know much about hop growing ... but do hops ever display hermaphroditism? Does anyone ever get the odd male flower on their female plants?

Could Browndog's hops be chucking out a random male flower early?

It could possibily be a Hermaphrodite, either way it will pollinate any nearby female flowers, and you'll end up with a bunch of seeds rather than a lot of resinous hops. (The female plant puts all it's energy into seed production once it's pollinated) If you want hops off either plant get rid of the male before any of the "tackle berries" open up. Or hang in there any see what your new strain of Mt Chinook hops are like next year.

BUGGER, thanks for that, luckily the dingleberrys are still closed and the CHinook has not even begun to start flowering, out it goes in the morning.
