I had a Hen's tooth Strong english ale the other week and have had a few more since then! :)

Made by Moorland, of speckled hen fame...

Has anyting got a AG recipe in that style? Keen to make an english ale/strong for my next and second AG

Cool forum btw

Over 100 views and no one has a clue?

What about a Speckled hen clone then?

I have yet to try any of the recipes, but neonmeate posted a link in this thread to 1500 British beer recipes which includes Speckled Hen. Brave man to attempt such a beer for your second AG.

I guess from your other posts you will have no trouble finding hops for this brew!
2nd AG brew! Really?

Stu/Anyone

Any idea why their adding 226g rice hulls? I can't see the need for a filter medium since most of the grain bill is malt.....

Should that read 226g of flaked rice?

Asher for now

Nah, rice or oat hulls. Seemed like a bit of overkill to me as well, with only 226g of torrified wheat in the recipe.

Mash temp is 65-6 for 90 minutes by the way. Again, seems like a needlessly long mash with decent modern grain.

Targets: OG 1.064-1.066; FG 1.014-15, IBU 42, SRM 12

I am only quoting, not necessarily recommending B)

Jim, I think the hop seller is MHB, while this is MHD.

Awesome Thanks guys...

Should be fun trying to track down those ingredients..

Yep... Second AG... I did my last one last weekend with a borrowed kettle... scored my own just yesterday...

Might put this one off till no three while I try to track those ingredients!

Yes... I dont sell hops :) I Buy hops :D
(now I understand!)

FWIW a very quick google of "speckled hen recipe" came up with this paritial mash recipe, in turn derived from the clone brews book.

Awesome...

So each recipe shows some added non-malt fermentables either from syrup or candi sugar...

mmm...
