Maybe look at the way you are pouring your beers.
I find that with my home brew I have to pour a little slower to avoid stirring up yeast, so it can be difficult to give the beer a good sloshing into the glass.
Try pouring the first of your beer into the glass with it sitting upright, pouring about a nip into the bottom then pick up glass and pour normal but increasing the distance from bottle to glass as you finish.
The pour into the bottom will give a thick foamy head that will tend to stay longer than a normal pour.

Interesting note,
poured a scottish 80/- today, it had no head at first, as it sat the head developed over about 2 minutes then stuck around the whole glass....it was real strange watching a head grow after the pour.
 
Proteins. Dextrins. Clean glasses with no residue. Head formation and retention.
 
I used to run another glass around the rim a few times and then give it a firm tap onto the rim.
Put some sparkle back into your pint.
