True story. I hear it quite often.
 
Dont chuck it in, it's a learning opportuntiy. Make the same beer with a coarser crush and see if their really is any problems associated with your own eyes.

Any hobby that includes "hand crank", "overshoot" and "porn" and produces beer as the outcome sounds pretty good to me!

It's a balmy 3'C. Might head out for a casual swim if the walk there isn't too hot.
 
I have just widened the gap of my mill to reduce the amount of flour in my mash. The annoying thing with my 3 roller is that I can't actually see the gap unless I take it apart. I am currently planning to always mash in thin and below gelat temps for better hydration, and hopefully get both good extraction efficiency and clarity with a coarse crush. Of course, the proof will be in the pudding.

Im pretty sure that if you crush your grain too thin you will smash up the husks releasing tannins and off flavours, minor though, also you create more of a chance of getting chill haze from the same problem.

Well, if you stab at it enough times, even though it might end up looking like a blue waffle, sooner or later you're going to get in with a winner.
 
And let's call the place by it's proper name, The Netherlands.

Holland (North and South) are only two 12 provinces which make up The Netherlands.

A bit like referring to Great Britain as England. Commonly done, but wrong.

Not agreeing entirely, there is a lot more to tannin extraction than just the crack, but if you have tannin extraction issues a bad crush can (and will) often exacerbate them.
You can do a very fine crush without shredding the husks; the quality of your mill will play a big role in this; but saying it isnt/cant be a factor to consider is I believe wrong.
Mash out and sparge water temperature, mineral profile and pH are probably going to be more important.
