my keg fridge freaked out a week or so back, and froze my kegs

(one full just carbed, the other about to blow)

the fridge is now hookded up to an STC1000, so i'm pretty sure it won't happen again..

i just had a taste of the full keg that was just carbed... just after carbing and before freezing, i thought it was terrible... now i think it's drinkable.

as it's my only full keg atm, i will most likely be drinking it... is there any valid reason not to drink a frozen/thawed keg?

have you ever heard of eisbock???

i made an ipa once which i accidently froze whilst cold conditioning in the cube. I transferred it to keg whilst semi-frozen and ended up with one of the most amazing beers i've ever made! ..... just thinking about it now :icon_drool2:

I have read several anecdotal accounts of finings such as gelatin and polyclar used in kegs have reduced tannins (thus reducung astringency) ... I wonder if giving your beer the freeze treatment helps to drop the tannins out of solution.

+1 on eisbock ... are you sure it is completely thawed?

When you say that initially it tasted terrible, can you describe what it was about it that tasted that way?

hmmm completely thawed... not sure but it's pouring fine.

initial taste was like i didnt give it long enough, on both the ferment and the cold crash, it was soupy and tasted unfinished, despite 2 weeks in ferment, at least 3 stable readings and 4 days crashing...

anyway, I now have a keg to drink :)
