This thread could not have come at a better time for me. For those of you that have modified your esky with a manifold, is there any chance that you could post a pic of your setup? It'd be good to see what a good setup looks like. Daniel.

There's a link to my cost effective and simple manifold.

31 batches later she still goes great, loses between 1/2 and 1 degree over a 60 minute mash.

EDIT: my process has evolved a bit since that 1st AG brew day - I changed to batch sparge, have done away with the hop bag, don't scoop off the scum...but still no wort chiller :)

Yep it worked.
Out is a 1/2 inch ball valve attached to the home made copper manifold via an olive fitting. There were other fittings used to fit to techniice cooler, these will differ depending on your setup. Just solder the joins on your manifold, not the long sections.

I use a 1m braid loop from a Bunnings toilet/whatever braided rubber hose, though I saved the brass swivel nut bits and attached to a 1/2" T-piece, pretty neat and works an absoulute charm with a loose-ish mash.

Not that you were thinking it, but DO NOT get the Eski 50L vessel with the angled outlet, it is a PITA.

I won't say my set-up is good, but it used the esky laying around in the shed so it was cheap, and it works for me.

I batch sparge for a total volume of 23 litres, which is typicaly (for a 5.5kg grist) 16 litres mash in and 2 equal batch sparges of 12 litres to get pre boil volume.

But in my under standing you want the wort to drain in the most direct route possible..

So if your were to build a manifold you would desire your 'runs' in the manifold to get to the tap in the shortest route.

So, you would go:

Was thinking of using a rectangle willow 25L cooler as a mash tun but a mate advised me against using one because they are not meant to have hold hot liquids in them. If anyone has any wisdom on using esky as a mash tun it would be much appreciated.
