I read via a Brulosophy link that a similar looking valve isn't that precise in turns of the number on the twist dial representing the actual pressure it sustains, but as long as it's consistent I don't mind. Eg. set the valve to 30psi but the pressure gauge will hold 15psi steady.

I would agree. You can’t trust the number scale on it. But they are accurate, just use the pressure gauge as a guide.

ive never trusted measuring things that extend out with a ruler ......

RE: 1/4 NPT to BSP connection - for a relatively small thread and since both are tapered I'd imagine a bit of Teflon tape would make up for the thread pitch / profile and dimensions.
In saying that, there are 1/4 NPT Tees available for a couple of dollars off ebay (304 SST); Also 60PSI NPT threaded Gauges. To finish it off - just a matter of finding a 1/4 NPT male to barb and the whole set up would be "proper".
Anyway, should be an interesting exercise

The cheapest and quickest option would be to buy one like in the link and replace the relief valve. No adapter needed. The threads will match. That’s what I did and it works great. View attachment 111562
