Brew Brothers,

The Easter weekend is almost here, ready for a big brew session :beerbang:

I must confess to not having brewed in at least 3 months and have stacks of hops, malt and time B)

Am formulating some receipes now. I intend to start back by brewing something so hoppy it will literally peel the paint off the walls. Then followed by maybe something soft and delicate

What are you brewing for Easter 2009?

Don't forget, the US Masters (golf) is also on!!

I got 2 brews on the cards.
An English IPA; Target for bittering..then plenty of EKG with a dry hopping of my own EKG flowers.
Second, a Americain IPA...plenty of Simcoe and Columbus, with a finishing of Cascade,Amarillo and Centennial.
Cheers and happy Easter brewing

Looks like I'm doing CortezThaKillers Not so Common and Tobesure Strong Cream Ale by domonsura. 41lt batches.

Edit: ToBeSure with GravityGuru going halvies!

Im also doing two brews this weekend, a Belgian Blonde and a quaffing blande ale :)

Doing a Wit on Friday, around 60L, racking half onto a bed of rasberries, for a side by side.
Would like to do another batch but SWMBO must be obeyed ;)

Here's the first. Trying to get something similar to Sierra Nevada's Torpedo Extra IPA.

On Friday I'll be giving this one go. Smoked Oatmeal Stout. Half batch only since it's a 1.066 SG beer in my tiny little mashtun. Roasted half the oats for an hour today, currently sitting in a brown paper bag 'till Friday. I'm reaaaally looking forward to this one. Suggestions still welcome.

That Tobesure Strong Cream Ale by domonsura looks like a corker. I'm looking forward to seeing a brew day at Chez Chappo - it should be good.Bring on Easter Monday!!! :super:

This long weekend is going to be a busy one. First off I need to fix my RO system. I've got it hooked up with a solenoid valve and float switch so that it'll fill the HLT automatically. The solenoid fittings are leaking, spraying water over my control box. Not good.

Once thats sorted I plan on brewing 4 batches, all no chill. Will be my first attempt at no chill too. I've purchased 4 new 20L cubes, will soak them with hot water on Friday. On Sat and Sunday I'll be brewing:
  • Lite American Lager
  • Kellerbier
  • APA
  • Iron Brewer Mild
I also need to keg a batch (Janets Brown Ale) and bottle two druivenbiers. Will be blending two Flanders Red batches and bottling the resulting beer (50+ bottles!). Will also be blending some jonge plambic (a little 4.5L demijohn) with raspberries.

Once thats all done I'll have freed up room in the biohazard cupboard for more FR and plambic :D

Easter already, i had a look at supplies and despite the 2 cheap kit brews i have knocked out this year my supplies are seriously low.
I threw on a HG clone kit today but the big news is that after heaps of delay due to a variety of reasons (mostly no free time lately)
I finally got my BIAB bag sewn up so i will probably be heading to the LHBS tomorrow to get some grain ground.
Will try this one

Hey QB, that looks the goods, why the rice hulls? is it a sparge thing. Why the roasted oats? how long and what temp and does it really make any difference considering you have choc and black already in the recipe.
I make an oatmeal and load the oats too 10% and struggle with head retention, roasted oats hmmm.

Cheers

I cant brew over the easter break. But I do have holidays for the week after so I am going to have at least three brews put down over my holidays.
Gunna twinkle with my aussie bitter recipe to get closer to where I want it to be- I tasted the hydro when i racked it to secondary and it tasted like a malty bitter VB. I tasted it again today and it tasted like a malty bitter crownie. So it needs adjusting :)
I will also be doing an AG of my Old Convict Stout but will bump it up from a 3.5 to 5 or six maybe.
Next in line will be the Dubbel belgian.

Finally a relaxing holiday

Cheers Brad

Apparently oatmeal will turn the grist to concrete. I get stuck sparges, so I've been adding rice hulls to all my brews. This one was getting some for sure!

I'm hoping to add even more maillard (toasty) flavours in, to go with the smokiness, which should be subtle. It's already as black as the ace of spades, so I'm not doing it for colour. Roasted for an hour on a biscuit tray at 180*C, stirring every 15 minutes. Smells wonderful. I've been waiting to do a good meal-of-a-stout for some time, and this one's going into 330mL bottles. Est. ABV is close to 7%. I'll try to let you know how it turns out.

Cant brew this weekend.

Instead i have the laborious job of bagging out on garfish, whiting and (if the reports are to be believed) blue swimmer crabs down on the Yorke Peninsula.

The tough choice i have to make - what commercial beers to consume during such a tough job......

But i will be raising a beer for all my brewing brethren - i would love to be belting out a few brews.

Sounds tough. Doing the same at Deestrees was told by missus no brewing at easter. But if the weather is crap it could be different. Greg
