Finally got around to solving a problem that's been bugging for a while
- how to remove the plug from a cube (and other containers with such
a plug) without destroying the plug.

Walked around a big green and red hardware store and found some
T-shaped reinforcing plates as shown below - use some bolts/nylocs
to laminate 4 together, file away some of the edges and presto! we
have a cube plug key. Now the cube can be easily plugged or fitted
with a tap anytime.

PURE GENIUS

I was about to make a similar trip to bunnings on a quest to find some sort of 'plug tool'.....then I opened a beer and it so happens that the front of my bottle opener is a near perfect fit and does the job beautifully....talk about a multi purpose tool.

Neat solution, but I can't quite see the problem here ...

I normally use the handle part of the tap that replaces the bung.

Perhaps i'm not doing the bungs up as tight :)

Can't see the problem either......
Just use the end of a flat metal file.

I've used the non-spoon end of a large spoon. Worked well :)

Those promo bottle openers ever 2nd company seems to give out work great. I put a different colour one on each of my key sets so i which is which, then i can open a beer or cube plug whenever... ;)

Er there is a special tool, cost something like $7-8 has the added advantage of working on cube caps as well.

Make sure to get the size that just fits into the plug slot if you still
go ahead with this - they should have the drums in store as well to
check with.

Clever! I used a big arse screwdriver before I got one of these

Would have liked one of these but was beginning to think such an item
was an urban legend :D given all the advice I got to use large screwdriver,
butter knife, ... etc.
