Rocker Chris Cornell, who gained fame as the lead singer of Soundgarden and later Audioslave, has died at age 52, according to his representative.
In a statement to The Associated Press, Brian Bumbery said Cornell died on Wednesday night (US time) in Detroit.
Mr Bumbery called the death "sudden and unexpected" and said Cornell's wife and family were shocked.
The statement said the family would be working closely with the medical examiner to determine the cause, and asked for privacy.

That's terrible news!
Really saddened by this. He was one of the best vocalists from the grunge era and from one of the best bands of that era.
Jesus Christ Pose is still one of my all time favourite songs. That plus Outshined, Slaves and Bulldozers, room a thousand years wide and rusty cage (basically Badmotorfinger!) were some of the defining grunge songs for me.
I can still picture them performing in the big arena at the Melbourne show grounds for the '94 Big Day Out. A phenomenal performance. JCP was fantastic, but watching the undulating crowd that filled the arena bounce in time to the grinding roll of Slaves and Bulldozers is one of the most memorable moments of my younger years.
A very sad day.

Chris Cornell was pure talent. Didn't matter if it was in the studio or playing live, he was able to belt it out without any artificial voice enhancers. I don't know if we will ever see someone who is able to let rip in 4 octaves again.

I reckon if I was given the opportunity to time travel I would choose Seattle in the early 90's. Soungarden, Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Alice In Chains playing in the local pubs. What a time.

Brilliant Artist.
I've got lots of good memories in life with his music as the soundtrack. And only the other week I was listening to some of his acoustic performances on youtube, appreciating the raw power and depth the guy had in his voice.
I recall someone talking about him, another performer (can't remember who right now), but their quote was something along these lines, "Cornell's the got best vocals in the business". RIP.

I play in a band


was jamming with 2 of the guys last night . our singer has a rehearsal space he rents out . we were just doing laptop DI recording ideas. we were in his main room and someone had booked it at 6pm so we had to switch rooms. me and bass player moved our stuff across and were waiting for the singer who was helping bump in the next band

sitting there unplugged I just started playing the jesus Christ pose riff cause I was in drop d and it popped into my head,haven't played it for years . Bass players says great song, and starts taking about seeing them in the 90's . 30 seconds later mid conversation the singer comes around the corner, no idea what we are doing or talking about , and says chirs cornell just died. I got just a txt

Great songwriter and musician.
Seeing them close the 94 big day out about 3 metres from the stage was a defining moment in my life, powerful shit. Especially when they followed the Ramones set.
Now there's two bands all the money in the world can't bring back.
