As I thought, yet more hop businesses

http://www.ecplaza.net/search/0s1nf20sell/hop_pellet.html

So plenty to choose from, and all cheap

I like Kernour International Co., Ltd. Their blurb includes the following:
"We are professional suppliers of Hops.We are located in north west part of China(XINJIANG UYGHUR AUTONOMOUS REGION)where produces best quality of hops.We there plant southands of hektares of hops and process it with advanced equipments."

I want a farm with "southands of hektares" too!

Best of all it must be a serious hop business 'cause the contact is "Mr. Mamutjian Ale"!!! GOLD!!!!

Edit: Forgot to mention that I'm happy to be a Sydney focal point if required.

Most BBs die out due to retailer's bullying suppliers, threatening to go elsewhere and the supplier is left to make a choice between a once off BB sale or a regular source of income.

Like to see 'em try and bully Chinese Suppliers. :D

here are five levels of government there as opposed to our three. The township councils regularly ignore central government edicts (one example being tax cuts that weren't passed on, and ended up in the local leaders' pockets), leading to quite variable levels of enforcement of central government rules- power is much more diffuse and decentralised than it seems. Besides, to describe post-Xiaoping China as Communist is very inaccurate.

...oh and there's absolutely no corruption over there :)

Which is a credit to them, rather than trying to block the buy. To jump in and trial the hops themselves and possibly make them available in smaller amounts long term.

QldKev

Kev,

That's exactly the reason I've joined in the buy - I'll be brewing with them to access their quality & will be putting them on the site at what I hope will be a very attractive price for those wanting budget hops. At a 10th of what I'm paying for a lot of hops these days, they certainly have an attraction commercially.

Cheers Ross

This is the last post

I am trying to hold down two run-a-way trains.

1. The supplier has the hops packed ready to go, and are very keen (also more confident they are ok)
2. You lot are on the go.

If this gets much bigger I am going to either (a) get a club to sort and mail (B) charge extra for the time and effort.

Anyway, things are moving quickly.

While I am away, some-on keep a running tally on how much of each hops we want. And do the other things I have asked as well

Hop producing country Output in tonnes (t)
Germany 34,438
USA 23,494
China 10,576
Czech Republic 7,831
Poland 3,414
Slovenia 2,539
United Kingdom 1,693
Spain 1,537
Ukraine 1,474
France 1,372

Interseting. Maybe they do know what they are doing? Someone must be buying a lot of hop from China. Maybe even me? and I did not even know it!

found some info on Chinese hop production that you might be interested in:

From the International Hop Growers 2005 Convention http://www.czhops.cz/tc/pdf/chinesehop.pdf

http://www.sapporobeer.jp/english/kenkyu/agri/china.html

http://www.sourcejuice.com/1024898/2008/08...ltivation-base/
if people actually bother to read thyose articles (good find by the way), some will focus on the last section where it gives the impression that china is behind in its adherance to world food health standards. although it doesnt go as far to say that.

it does give a lot of info about each region that is growing hops. from that document and some info from the supplier as to which provance/area their hops are grown from, one should be able to assess the likely standard of the hop (ie poor soil or good soil etc etc).

from the other articles it is interesting to read and get an idea that mostly hop production has been for high AA%, big yield crops to satisfy the megaswill demand. sounds similar to australia doesnt it. it shouldnt suprise anyone that a country with massive agriculture industry and potential for expansion would enter this field, as im sure hops would provide more $ per kilo than rice and other crops they currently grow. esp as hops are relatively self suffcient, dont need massive amounts of water like rice, fairly labour free (until harvest), and doesnt strip the soil bare of nutrients.

interesting articles croz

I've been to Xinjiang on an overland trip to Pakistan two years ago. Amazing part of the world - and in the news lately with all the Uighur protests. I parts of Xinjiang are famous for grape, sultana and wine production, but had no idea about the hops.....

whats everyones facination with poo? even if it was absolutely covered and grown in human excrement, by the time it was harvested and pelletized, it would be fine. your concern should be about toxic waste, heavy metals, in the soils. not poo for shit's sake (pun intended).

The Xinjiang province is the most easterly bastion of the Turkic people and they are all clever agriculturalists. I saw a program recently about the production of grapes there which are shipped all over China. I speak a bit of Turkish and would love to visit sometime and be able to talk to the locals, although they have a somewhat different accent to the yuppies in Istanbul etc. Being a muslim people I guess they don't use sewage in their farming, and probably are in the club that only uses their left hand for certain purposes (hence the cutting off of the right hand of thieves which means they can't eat in company any more).

How similar are Turkish and Uighur? I wouldn't have thought Turkish would get you very far - I think Uigher, Tajik, kyrgyz and maybe even Russian would have been more useful.

:icon_offtopic: 'Standard' Turkish is very similar to the Western Turkic languages such as Azeri, Turkment etc. The further east you go the less close the languages are but nowhere near as different as say English and Dutch. Way out East many of the day to day terms are very similar:

Turkish for one, two, three, four.....

Bir iki uc dort bes alti yedi sekiz dokuz on

Uighur....

bir ikki uch tot bash alta yatta sakkiz doqquz on

I reckon it would be similar to a Cornish farmer trying to hold a conversation with a Glaswegian skinhead  Can't understand what Scruffy is on about at BABBs meetings and we are only opposite sides of the Pennines

:icon_offtopic: Very interesting! I knew they were similar, but had no idea they were that similar.

Make damn good noodles, them Uighurs do. Lets hope the same goes for the hops!
