depends on what brews y9ou make. as Maple pointed out he's just dropped almost 1/2kg into a brew. that adds up. IPAs using 100-200g of hops. etc.

besides its worth a try. if they are an inferior product, then no one will use them again.

Except in case swaps :D

We bought some new plates for the Restaurant today, on the bottom it says "Australian Fine China" "Made in China"

Whats Australian about it????

I'd imagine that is where the porcelain (and bone ash if you've spent a few bucks on it) is sourced.

good to see everyone keeping their LHBS in business. :p

Don't know about the rest, but I'd only use them for bittering - except for experimental brews to check and compare the flavor to hops I regularly use.
So I'll be needing to buy aroma hop plugs to go along with them plus all the extra grains etc.
Probably spend more than usual with local suppliers, but at least I won't run out of beer :icon_cheers:

OK

Things are moving forward at a great rate of knots

Yes importing into Aus is NOT A PROBLEM

We have been to exporting hops products to Australia before, the paperworks are necessary for you and we are sure to offer full paperworks for clear customs. Well, you have to pick shipment up by yourself or freight forwarder at destination port, please inform us your nearest seaport, your postal address, phone number. It is easy for you to import goods from China by sea, do not worry about it. We would help you. Further, payment should be paid totally in advance due to very small amount. Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Best regards,Carol Wang

I love the bit "very small amount". Looking at 100kg plus. Me4ans this company must ship a sitload of hops arround the place.

So anyway its looking like all I have to do is pick them up from the local port. Next step is to check if they ship to Townsville. Otherwise its a major city.

If that is the case, then some-one is going to have to do the business there. "willing helpers". Seems pointless shipping to Townsville to just ship back again.

Will keep all informed

1. top effort Graham (im going to have to call you colonel from now on)
2. love the english in the email. I wonder if they use a translation service?
3. does townsville have a port?
4. if not, then i suggest it makes the most sense to ship it to the major city which has the most buyers and then they can sort.

if its melb, I might do my good deed for the year and volunteer.

You guys are going to get me shot. I did not start this thread to be a bulk buy, I just wanted to kick things off about a general discussion/info. **** ME. Thats all I need.
Thats just another kick in the balls for Aussie HB Retailers.
I loved how everyone was bagging the crap out of Chiese hops until they saw the price.
And thats why the country is in the shit. I hope none of u people have family or friends that USED to work at the Bonds factory in Aus.

Easy on steve. Anyone can see you did not start the bulk buy and your names not even on the bulk buy list. I wouldnt worry about it mate.

You'll sleep easy tonight (so will i) knowing we support the retailers and letting them eat steak instead of baked beans for dinner. (ok that was the joke bit over with!)

shop local mate, you know where its at ;)

edit : and before anyone chops my nuts off yes i got my med pressure reg and march pump (which is still sitting in its box) in a bulk buy about a year ago, call my what you will but i still get all my grains, hops and yeast off my LHBS.

Cant help it, the arogant ******* in me is coming out.

This sort of talk is rubbish. I too believe in suporting my local HBS, and local businesses in general.

BUT TO A POINT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dont mind paying appropriate mark-ups for local businesses to survive. Shit I even do it fr free on my radio show. But if I simply find all this out with a few e-mails, and remember its a world economy, and now well communicated I ask one very simple question

"why the hell hasn't all the local shops been importing this stuff for years for us??????"

We wouldn't have to do this if they did, AND they could charge the standard markups and still make money.

I just wish businesses would wake up to
1. Its a world economy
2. We have the Internet

The fact that they haven't makes me question the quality of them. But good luck to people using them!

Which is a credit to them, rather than trying to block the buy. To jump in and trial the hops themselves and possibly make them available in smaller amounts long term.

I support two WA retailers! ALOT! and will continue to do so! Ive just placed a large hop order with my favourite retailer!

Have a look on your own shirt and see where that's made, and you pants, undies etc.
I would bet their not an Aussie brand.

Most BBs die out due to retailer's bullying suppliers, threatening to go elsewhere and the supplier is left to make a choice between a once off BB sale or a regular source of income.

Somehow I don't see that occurring this time, and if it does well then we will all see that there is a retailer who already knew about these hops, is buying up big and selling them under the guise of being from somewhere else.......While that is unlikely to be occurring, I'm sure that if it was the retailer wouldn't be overly game to kick up a stink for fear of being caught out...

Flame suit on
You get what you pay for. See attached article/ tale of woeView attachment CX.pdf
There is no guarantee that these hops weren't fertilized with human excrement and sprayed with DDT, there is little control over these practices in China, having said that Carlsberg and Saporro have made huge investments in Chinese hop companies so possibly some of the dodgy practices will be controlled.
