I would suggest that anyone buying anything that is to be posted register it. It protects both buyer, and seller.

There's nothing wrong with having a feedback forum here, if you do the right thing, are honest in descriptions and insist on registered post- (you could even calculate it into the cost of the goods you're selling- makes things easier) then there's no reason for anyone to be worried about receiving bad feedback. In fact, it might help those newbies among us (like me) as to who is a reputable seller- I don't recommend airing your dirty laundry by naming and shaming the bad guys, but it would be nice to see if someone I'm planning on buying from has been a decent seller in the past.

I know most other forums I'm on have that kind of system, so its definitely doable.

Just my newbie 10c worth.

What would you expect one of the moderators to do?

Someone says it did not arrive, perhaps it did perhaps it didn't. Surely you can't expect a moderator to get involved.
As far as I see it you enter into a buy/sell arrangement with a fellow member, it is a transaction between you two and separate from the guide lines of this forum.

Batz

Fair call, I happily withdraw my remarks!

I could walk to NSW in 10 days.

Not in this heat! :p

i think Reg was just saying that he'll buy from a retailer rather than privately. I could be wrong. If it was a retailer though id expect Reg would have had recourse other than asking AHB. He had an invoice or something i would have thought.
You are spot on CM2,

It was from some one who I used to see reguarly on these forums but not for a few days.
I have dealt with other people on this forum and have always received gear promptly once paid.
Its a shame to have this happen as now it leaves a bad taste in your mouth and puts doubt into your mind.

99.99% of transactions happen hassle free its the 0.01% that you always remember however.

Sounds like some of you guys are worried about what you send in your PMs

Not writing naughty things are we??
No nothing bad.
I framed the original query just out of curiosity really.
Never had a bad pm sent to me, and never sent one myself {well not on here anyway :eek: }
Thanks for the clarification boys.

Here! here! It is the only way I do business here or anywhere!

I completely and utterly disagree. Please don't take what I am going to say personally, I don't know you or your back ground and I am not intentionally doing the flame.

But this is not ebay or sell your stuff dot com. It's Aussie Home Brewer. If you want ebay functionality, rate a buyer/seller and all their bells and whistle go there to shop. Simple. I believe this site is provided as a free (does anyone remember having to pay for this forum?) service to members with a common interest. "BREWING BEER AT HOME" from memory. It is sponsored by the guys on the banner above. Frankly for that I am greatful for their support as we all should be and buy from them at every opportunity I can as a thanks.

I get you have the dirts because you may or may not have been ripped off, I am not going to call that one. No one likes being ripped, especially me. I really do feel for you. But unfortunately on any forum, group, club or what not there will be some bad apples in the bunch. Yes we should hang them from the highest tree in the grove. But we can't because it's not the object of this forum, that is to sell stuff and moderate that sales process.

I think the fact remains this forum is about brewing beer, all sorts of beers, friendly and informative, even funny and jovial, catering for the absolute novice to the deadset AG legend. Unless I am reading it wrong? It's not really for hocking stuff. What's next? We will want to rate each others advice and or opinions so newbs etc can tell if someone telling them a wah wah?

Simple solution is get rid the hock my stuff thread and change it to an inform the forum that you have an item on ebay for sale. That way ebay can be the police judge and jury.

Sorry Guys but give me a break. I see your 10c and raise you 20c!

If you haven't thought of this already, can I suggest that maybe (big maybe), the parcel arrived and the postie left a "postage holding note" in your letterbox and you just missed it? This happened to me once - the note slipped in between some junk mail that got binned, so I never knew the parcel had arrived. After 7 days, it got returned to sender. Maybe your parcel is on its way back to your supplier......

Cheers - Snow

I've had that happen a few times....

Check out your local post office, I could be the case.

If you are concerned about buying from a new forum member then ask if another known forum member can vouch for them.

Anyone wanting to sell on the forum is generally here to help out another brewer with a good deal. If thats the case they are probably a brewing/beer fanatic and has been along to a case swap or club meeting.

Now that's the best suggestion and solution thanks Jye!

I have calmed down now.

maybe i am missing something here, "REG" have you told the forum what it was that you have bought, if it was a small package item ten days is a fairly long time, if its a bulky item it may well take that time plus more as we have had the public holiday/weekends etc, have you sent the seller a few messages wanting more info about wether he has a post office receipt, have you rang your post office incase it was delivered and you werent home, then they may take it back to the post office. you cant always blame the seller , things do go missing in the post. can you fill these details for us as to what you have done to get to the bottom of this,i dont see that naming someone on this site would be agood idea as it may not be their fault once it has been posted, but i think its a reminder from now on that if you buy something off an AHB member get it registered for peace of mind,

mods would be useful to PM to check if the persons inbox is full (hence not receving your PMs) and to tell you when the last time the person logged on was.

You know you can check when a person was last online in their profile?
Last seen ......... on the left hand side.

I agree naming the seller will not help anything... except if it is a relatively new member who is not known by anyone, then they should be outed as a warning to future potential buyers.

I have done all of the above and taken into account public holidays etc.
I do not want to name the seller or what I bought as that would make it too easy to work out who it is.

I also dont want to name them as previously stated it might just be snail mail fault.
The package would be the size I got off Ross overnight so I doubt its the mails fault but you never know.

yes ,fair effort to get to the bottom of it i think, hope it turns up then

Chappo - essentially Jye said exactly the same thing as me - just shorter, and a little differently.

I'm not talking full blown ratings, or anything else...just somewhere where you can write 'Bought stuff off Jimbob, no problems'. Simple.

I mean really, how many of you have actually bought something off someone else here, and can truly vouch for them? If I sent a PM asking about someone, and I happened to message his best mate- how honest do you think he's going to be? Would you say 'Oh yeah, he's my best mate- but he's a ****** when it comes to selling'?? I don't know many who would. And then I might message someone who doesn't even know the person I'm going to buy from at all- then I'm left pming to try and find someone who knows them enough to vouch for them.

I understand the whole 'Its a beer forum' deal, I suppose you might insist I go somewhere else, because my main focus is going to be mead and the like- wouldn't want 'non beer' stuff to interfere in the forum now would we?

Goddess forbid someone should suggest something that would help a newbie like herself work out who to trust with her hard earned money. You might not give a ****, and have a never ending supply of money to waste- but I don't. I've not been burnt by anyone, and don't have the dirts- my suggestion was that perhaps it would make it easier for newbies like myself who maybe can't afford to go buying everything from a retailer first off.

It was simply a suggestion.

You say no offense, but then proceed to try and offend, getting hyped up and angry over a simple suggestion.

A simple- I don't think thats a very good idea would have done. I'm not here to argue about a bloody forum suggestion. I don't really care either way, as I said- it was just a suggestion. I'm going to curtsey out of this conversation, because it is not my intention to get slapped by Mods my first week here.

I'm sorry if my suggestion pissed you off. It was not my intention.

Scroll down on the main page and read the description of the forum called "The AHB Marketplace".

What's next? We will want to rate each others advice and or opinions so newbs etc can tell if someone telling them a wah wah?

That should happen in every thread. Not a "rating" quantitatively, but qualitatively. As a brewing community we want to supply people with correct or as helpful as possible advice. If I read a thread where someone has told a blatant untruth regarding advice for a new or inexperienced brewer, I'll pipe up. This is one of those occasions.

Cheers

To follow on Margaret's idea, why not just go to the profile of the person from who you have purchased/sold, and leave a comment.
If this forum works like others I have seen then the comments remain visible to ALL.
You could just say "Thanks for the great transaction mate!" or whatever floats your hydrometer.

Instant ratings system.

Cheers,
Jake
