Slid my fermenter with the temp probe under it on a solid ply fridge shelf. This twisted and broke the wire  . Whats in the wire? Can these be fixed? If not, do I have to replace the whole thing? THanks in advance

Pretty sure the wire is just a wire. You could cut them both, strip and solder together to make it good as new (taped or heatshrinked). If you wanted to dodgy it maybe try twisting together and electrical tape.

I've got a feeling the probes reading is dependent on the resistance of the wire junction in the probe head, and soldering can alter that resistance enough to throw it out of whack. I definitely wouldn't just twist them; solder them well, then It's probably pay to make sure it's accurate (compare temps with a thermometer you know is accurate).

Depends on the type of temperature probe. Thermocouple? RTD?
