Used to brew full grain beers years ago in the UK a-la Dave Line, but having recently started brewing again, I'm not in a position to make fully mashed brews or boil-up recipes so relying on kits for the time being.
What I really love about beer is the hop aromas, especially in Northern European Lagers. Would choose a Bavaria (Liquorland) over a VB any day of the week!

So obviously with a kit the thing for me to do is to 'tea bag' the brew with Saaz or Hallertau? Can also muck around with some additional grains and malt extracts.

Are there any Brissy members who can recommend some good comprehensive fresh stock suppliers on the Northside? We have a store at Morayfield but they seem to be more directed towards the section of the trade that requires certain - erm - flavourings and Turbo Yeast packs  for whatever reason and who use terms that I have never heard before like "That's a wicked thin wash, bro" :icon_offtopic:

Any help appreciated. Great forum.

Sorry BribieG I think your going to be out of luck. Most of the stores on the North that I know of are pretty much K&K and dont stock much grain, hops, (except pellets) or other extra goodies. Im at Burpengary and regularly go to Morayfeild, Strathpine and Kedron They are all on the same par, plenty of distilling additives etc not a great deal of fresh stuff for you more enthusiastic brewers. Maybe order through sponsors might be the way to go.Best of luck. :icon_cheers:

Hi BribieG

I live in kallangur and cant find any fresh stuff local. I am going to make it out to Ross' shop one day. Perhaps contact Ross and see how much postage or courier depending on what you want. Maybe we could get our products together and split the courier if its not to much. I have relies on Bribie so I wouldnt mind dropping your stuff off. Just a suggestion.

Cheers Brad

Mate, I can tell you now,for the bit of postage you`ll pay, use Ross @Craftbrewer. Apar tfrom the bloke at Samford Rd. Enogerra, you will be wasting your time looking on the N/Side.
The bloke at Samford Rd carries stuff the others don`t {or used too, anyway} but there`s no guarantee he`d have what you want.
You`d be more chance of stuffing melted butter up a porcupines arse with a red hot needle than finding a fully serviced hbs on the N/side :(

stagga.

Thanks guys, Ross seems to be the go :) - the sort of stuff I would be ordering, the freight would have to be cheaper than the 180 round trip to Underwood

$25 for fuel and Gateway toll and half a day of traffic hassle vs. delivered to your door for about a third of that.
You know what to do ;)

You could try The Beer Man in Lawnton. The Beer Man store at 3b, 721 Gympie Road Lawnton (behind Mr Toys). He does grain now and he also stocks standard kit and kilo bits and pieces. Glenn Welsh PH: 0400 364 466. Note also that if you join the Pine Rivers Underground Brewing Society (PUBS) club he will also give you a club discount.

Good luck

But the shop is hardly ever open. And the guy who is normally in there cant offer much advise. Glenn is only there on saturday. Grain is at least a 3 day wait.

Believe it or not, the fuel cost from Bribie to Lawnton and return would probably be more than the courier cost from Underwood.
{as long as you`re not ordering about 40kg. of stuff, that is}

I'll certainly check out the Lawnton store to see what they offer (Mrs and I occasionally go down to Chermside Shopping Centre and ALWAYS detour to get the cheap petrol at the Liberty at Bald Hills just off the Freeway and Lawnton is just up the road hey.
But really I'm after the yeasts and hops at the moment. However I'm now 300% more informed than I was yesterday, thanks guys :D

the brewers world on morayfield road has yeasts and hops. can't say about thier quality though since i've never used any of it.

Thanks Rimrunner, I'm in the process of moving house (just to the next suburb) next Tuesday and will have an entire single garage to myself as a brewery :) . I'll be getting another couple of fermenters next week and the Morayfield shop does a reasonable price on fermenter tap and airlock so I'll have another look while I'm in there. I'm familiar with hop quality (from years ago) so it will be interesting. Cheers.
