Brazing attempt - Have I ruined the pot?

Hey guys,

First attempt at brazing stainless. Didn't quite go as planned. May have used the wrong brazing rod (nickel & bronze). Has the pot been ruined by too much heat?

Still needs fixing - silver solder seems to be what I should have used in the first place?

Cheers for the link! I did get it red hot with the mapp torch - brazing rods were just struggling to get flowing. Probably due to my inexperience though. Pots a few mm thick.

You'll need the expensive high silver content (45% or better) silver solder and flux. Best to get it from a welding supply specialist (eg BOC) who can provide the product technical info and make sure you get a food grade alloy (as silver solder can have up to 25% cadmium which makes it easy to use but isn't the best for health).

Yes, and use the #2 flux with the hi silver content solder

Agree with Krusty. I have silvered a lot of stainless over the years, you need that high content silver (like T45) and don't get the stainless too hot, just hot enough so the silver 'runs' nicely

when you say silver solder and brazing do you mean hard and hot brazing or soft silver solder with less heat?
