I am upgrading my rig and was planning on using my old 70L kettle for a Mash Tun.
This is a good quality heavy duty pot and I was wondering if there is any advantage over a thing base or a thick base.

I need to buy a new HLT as well and was thinking I could use the current H/D pot for the HLT and then pick up a thin based SS pot and insulate that for the Mash Tun.

Just wondering the pros and cons of each.

I'm not so sure that it matters so much. Thin bases are cheaper and dent easily. Thick based pots take longer to heat up, but hold their heat better once they're hot. Thick bases also distribute the heat more evenly, helping to reduce scorching from high output gas burners.

Let us know how you go. I'm sure others will have opinions too.

Cheers.
