I'll have you know that I sometimes mop them as well thank you very much......

well done mate, you never told us you got a promotion - good stuff :icon_drunk:

keep trying and one day, they might let you clean the concials

When I first started working at a brewery, I was told that I wasn't allowed to enter a comp as I was no longer an amateur & that comp was an amateur comp. No drama as I didn't plan on entering. Whilst I brew quite a few batches at home, I still wouldn't bother entering any of my beers in a home-brew comp. I don't like the rules. I find brewing to style far to restrictive, the people who run them are as dodgy as, (Hi Croz) & those that judge them are worse(g'day Trev). The worst part is you have to get your beer somewhere before a set time & date, & that is just impossible !
Cheers

Well that's certainly to the point! haha. But when will I be able to drink your beers at a bar or pub in Melbourne?

Sooner rather than later. New plant is on the way, doubling our brew-length.

GMK, you never contribute in a positive way, whats changed? on the back of your retail tag?
APD, A forum, spelling, mentor? you would have to be joking. Sure I posted whilst drinking, you havent? If not, good onya.

The question, a very valid one. Whom is an amateur and who is not? I question the credibility of a comp when someone plays outside their weight division.
It was answered. I move on. I dont have too agree with it, nor do I have to shove it down peoples throats. And I wont.

Thanks.

ps, re the herms, rims, pid controlled systems, sure they make good beer but........

Haysie

I suggest you check the search function. You might learn a couple of things.

Firstly, GMK contributes a hell of a lot more to this forum and to brewing in general than I'm sure you ever have or will.

Secondly, you would also see that this topic has been covered ad nauseam.

And finally, if you doubt the credibility of a competition, either get involved or simply don't enter.

Steve

NB: I know - don't feed the trolls ... :p

I was involved troll, furthermore were you involved? was gmk involved? was the fkn search thing involved?

2 retailer responses in a thread they had no reason or attribute, yet you can condone that.

Sure, I have a say, and let the crowd sort the mass, but dont ride the wagon of a retailer whom gives nothing to the thread.

Did you enter a beer? did you get involved? what doi you think about a brewery employee winning x2?
Yet after 50 post`s, there is probably 2 posts credible. I see the winner has commented " a la".

LOL. Gerard, good too see you haven't lost the spirit since moving south :beerbang: BTW I think I know what you mean re Trev B)

The worst part is you have to get your beer somewhere before a set time & date, & that is just impossible !
is that why you can't keep the new brews constantly supplied?? :p  (I couldn't let that opening go past now could i?)

Sure comps aren't for everyone & yeah the styles can be limiting, but it is also a skill to make something that "fits in the box". On the other hand, lots of people have improved their brewing heaps by getting impartial 3rd party (generally) constructive criticism of their beer(s) - some (the winners) even get some kudos for their efforts.

I agree with the comments that just because you work in a brewery doesn't make you that brewery's brewer (most work as admin, chemists, labourers or process workers) & if those individuals happen to make their own beer at home - good on em.

Congrats Thirsty, hope the temp controllers are still working well.

OK Haysie,
Here is a genuine reply to your original question. I say, bring them on, as an amatuer brewer who has entered the QABC, I think knowing I am up against Blokes who may work in the industry only adds kudos to getting a place. As others have said, these guys are brewing at home on their home systems which may or may not be more sophisticated than my or your system. Also, they have to stick within the guidelines of the style they are brewing, which we all must do. Good brewing practices aside, I think it all comes down to the tastes of the brewer and the judge.

cheers
