The Queensland Homebrewing Conference (QHC) is on again this year, on 13, 14 October.

The conference will kick off on Friday night, 13 Oct, with a mystery bus tour - 2 bars and three breweries. Tickets sold separately and will include the bus and 2 beers at each brewery. We will be picking up and dropping off at Southbank.

Saturday's conference will once again be at the South Bank Institute of Technology. Speakers include 3 commercial brewers, a distiller, three noted home brewers, an equipment supplier, grain and hops supplier and a scientist.

Topics to be covered will include:
    - Kettle souring
    - Barrel ageing
    - Double and triple mashing to produce high gravity beers
    - Beginners guide to yeast
    - Cleaning and sanitising - what to use, why and when?
    - Gassing with Nitro - where to get it, how to use it?
    - Basic artisinal distillation - tricks to first-principles distilling, and barrel aging spirits
    - Separating Fact from fiction - a review of Brewlosophy experiments and what they mean for home brewers
    - Trying different hops (they don't have to start with 'C') and new hop technology
    - Q&A panels

Spiegelau will be running another Glass Session. This time, we will be returning to the four-glass Classic set - you must book and pay separately, but the cost is still less than a set of the amazing Spiegelau glasses and there will be a heap of beers to try as you test each glass.

There will be plenty of locally brewed beers on hand, thanks to Brisbane's independent breweries, plenty of excellent food and we will be running Club Wars again - 8 clubs, a standard set of ingredients and no rules about what to brew. Sample every beer and cast your vote on the top club for the year.

Saturday night will be our Beer and Food matching Dinner. The beers are underway and the range is very wide! it's always a great night and we think this will be be fantastic too.

A new Grainfather Conical Fermenter and Controller will be won on the day, thanks to Imake. And there will be plenty more give-aways.

Sponsorship for this year's conference comes from Brewers Choice, National Homebrew, Gladfield, BeerCo, Imake, Ecolab and Ballistic Beer Co.

I'll be heading there for sure.
I won't be mucking around staying in the suburbs or anything: I'm pleased to see that this year there are actually hotels at Southbank for around $115 which was unheard of when I lived in SEQ. Any recommendations for a 2 night stay?

Queensland Homebrewing Conference Almost Here - LAST CHANCE TO BOOK TICKETS!

The 2017 Queensland Homebrewing Conference is almost here. Run every two years, this is one conference you will never forget! Aimed at home brewers of all levels, it is a day of education, fun and more than the odd beer.

This year we have speakers from some of Queensland’s best breweries, top home brewers, equipment and chemical suppliers. There’s something for everyone and all will leave the event able to brew better. Throw in give-aways, raffle prizes including a Grainfather Conical Fermneter, free food and beer, and you have a hell of a day.

Big name Brewers presenting at the conference include:

    · Brennan Fielding Owner and Brewer – Burleigh Brewing

    · Steve “Hendo” Henderson – Former owner and brewer – Brew Cult, now at Stone and Wood

    · Simeon Bonetti – Newstead Brewing (formerly Brisbane Brewing Company and Brewers Choice)

    · Gavin Croft – Newstead Brewing and Croft Brewing, and more.

    Suppliers attending include:

    · Malcom Swalwell from Ecolab

    · Dermott Dowling from Beer Co (and Gladfield)

    · Nick Wiseman - Grainfather

    Topics will include:

    · Common brewing misconceptions

    · Barrel aging your beers

    · Basic yeast management

    · Mixed yeast fermentations

    · "Get past C! What about E?" - Hops 101 - Let's get more out of our Hops Homebrewers!

    · Using Nitro in your beers

    · Brewing Gluten Free beers

    · Hygiene for Homebrewers and

    · Going further with the Grainfather.

Along with that, Club Wars is back – 8 Home Brew clubs brewing beers with the same ingredients vying for the title of Best Home Brew Club. All attendees get to taste and vote on the best Club brew.

We have the Spiegelau Glass session - a standout at previous conferences. If you have never tried beers from glasses designed specifically for each beer, you’ve missed out on how good your beers can taste.

Round out the conference by attending the Beer and Food Matching dinner from 6.30. Five beers brewed by top home brewers, matched to three courses prepared by the experts who train Brisbane’s new chefs. There will be plenty more beer and a guest speaker to keep us amused during the night.

All in all, a fantastic day and worth every cent. Join in with a hundred other homebrewers and lift your brewing to new levels.
