I bought these second hand, advertised as 650SS, but they look to me to be 545SS. They don't quite match the 650's I already own, but otherwise I'm sure they're still very good. Any takers for $65 each? In Brisbane but can also post.

Thanks for the link, I think I better file an "item not as described" report on ebay.

Out of interest, what is the visible difference between the 545 and 650?

I believe the font of the 'P' is a big one

Yes the P is different and the texture on the flow control knob is different.

FWIW the link joshF posted is for the Chrome plated model, not Stainless Steel (which is more like $90 new), so $65 still seems like a good price to me. If anyone wants both I will sell for $120.

There only $30 in my lhbs
30 bucks for a stainless perlick?
I know a lhbs near you has had an abs plastic forward sealing tap hanging around for a while. That might be what you are thinking of.

The OP is offering a good deal. Id be tempted but I just bought another keg and the wife is suspicious when parcels arrive in the post.

Again mate, the pics you posted of yours are definitely the 545PC model and the Brewmart link actually used photo's of the 545PC instead of the 545SS. The 545SS model has a different P and yeah they do retail slightly higher but were superceded by the 650SS. Generally people pay more for stainless over chrome due to the longevity and bling factor.

There's plenty of posts here about the 545SS and 545PC.

Also FWIW the knurling on the flow control knob thing is different. Slotted versus a grid style pattern thing.

No if I can't get $120 I will return them to the eBay seller.

Josh are you sure they're not stainless? I emailed a photo to perlick who said they were 545SS.

There is two easy ways to tell, they will be vastly different in weight brass to stainless or you could do the scratch and see test with a file.

Topher, have you never heard of 'Workplace Health And Safety'?

Its main meaning for wimps like you well under their wife's thumb involving rash, impulsive, non consultative home brewing purchases is: To use your Workplace to maintain your long term Health And Safety by having your purchases surreptitiously routed to your workplace until you finally grow a pair of balls and have them drop into place!

There is a report generated within the AHB system regarding the post from real_beer.

I feel that the post is stated with a tongue firmly planted in cheek and is no way meant to be offensive.
The gist of the reply is....if you are worried about the wife seeing what you buy then have it delivered to your workplace...

It would be a bit like subscribing to **** with a "secret" credit card..:) :)

 I hate to admit my testes haven't dropped yet, but alas all my own on the line purchases go to my workplace these days, with Lael's new controller being a case in point.

I used to have a guitar buying habit that saw me strike an agreement with the Austpost parcel delivery driver to park in the neighbours driveway and I'd sneak over, sign for them and hide them in the garage until I could get them into the house. I eventually got caught when she did a spring clean, but I'd taken my collection from 5 to 13 guitars before the jig was up. That's when I switched to workplace drop offs, sadly guitars are now off the table due to her regular spot count checks, except for one small travel guitar while she was away visiting the kids in Queensland. I've since acquired a great guitar pedal and small amp collection though.

I'm surprised I offended with my post as I thought my remarks were rather obviously humour driven, but in this day and age of political correctness I should of expected it. I'm sad to say that after my controller arrives I think it might finally be time to pull the plug on AHB and move on.

These have been returned to the seller for a refund

I thought that 545ss still had the same "p" as the 545pc model.
I've asked Perlick about this. The 500 series has the stylised looking italic P whereas the 600 series has the plainer bolder P. The 545PC has the P printed on (so it's smooth across) whereas the 545SS has the P stamped in.

This is true. Thanks for the feedback everyone.
