    Venezuela's main brewer shuts down.

Venezuela's main brewer is shutting down due to the countries drought, power restrictions and "no money to buy grain from abroad" putting 10,000 out of work.

    Fizzy alcoholic water

I'm thinking of water + dex + yeast = alcoholic water. Keg & carb = alcoholic soda water. For the ladies at a party with a selection of juices & cordials for flavourings. See any problems?

    Mykegsonlegs swap & go

Went down to my local Brewers Choice for a swap & go for my 6.8kg cylinder and was told that because I had not bought the cylinder from them & I wasn't on their database they would only refill, not swap & go. That meant it had to be sent to another branch and would be 2-3 days turnaround...

Carbing time in bottles. More than you think.

Recently I had an interesting experiment forced upon me due to a mistake. I brewed a Coopers Cerveza, straight K&K, for one of my son’s mates. After 2 weeks I transferred it to a bottling bucket to bulk prime and topped up to 23L with 3L of cooled water from the fridge and bottled into swingtops...

Ikea swingtops won't hold CO2. not Aldi

I made a pear & apple cider for the ladies at a birthday I knew was coming up, put it in a 1 litre Aldi swingtop bottle primed with 8gms sugar & stored under the kitchen sink. The party was last Saturday, so on Thursday I put it in the fridge. Come saturday evening, opened it, flat as a tack...

Using Lager yeast in faux lager cans

What would be the effect of using a proper lager yeast & temperatures, instead of the kit yeast in cans of Coopers Lager, Mexican Creveza or Tooheys Lager etc, that use ale yeast?

    Yeast and CO2

Do some yeast produce more CO2, or is it a fixed ratio of sugar in = fixed amt CO2 & fixed amt alcohol out? Reason for asking, was thinking of lagers that had been at low temps for a long time and needed a yeast top up before bottling. To reduce the yeast in the bottom of the bottle.

Any benefit in storing ale at lagering temps?

I have a fridge that is currently lagering a couple of brews @ 2'c. There is plenty of room left in the fridge and I was considering storing some bottles of ale in there as well. Any benefit?

    what has happened?

A couple of weeks ago a friend handed me a can of Tooheys Special Draught and asked me to brew a 12 litre batch for him. (don't ask, something about the father in law) When I did his brew I decided to use the leftover in the can to use as base for a Scottish Light Ale, using Ianh's excellent...
