    Isb First Meet Of 2007

Hi all, thanks to Mike for hosting, and everybody else to make it really entertaining. To follow up on my strong Wit everybody found too sweet, the hydrometer says 1.012. Should be fully fermented I would guess. Maybe mashed on the high side of 65C. Cheers, Laurent

Isb Meet Is The 17th Or 24th

Hi All, actually, the 24th works for me too. Withdrawn. It doesn't work anymore for lunch. Or I could come for a quick hello middle afternoon. Laurent

    Belgian Dark Strong Ale

Hi, sorry, wasn't reading all the topics lately. Here's my procedure, it's a bit overboard though with quantities because it's my first time designing. All the people sneering will go to bed without beer! :D ========= Belgian Dark Choco 1.5kg Golden Promise 400g Flaked Oats 3l water -->...

    Isb Brewday

Actually, I'm just keeping a list of What's Where. My fridge is too small to keep all the samples. I'll send a reminder to everybody in a few weeks for an update of the list. Thanks all.

Hi All ISB members, thanks for this great afternoon. Good to see all the people enjoying themselves and proudly presenting their brews. Really informative and fun. Thanks also to Gav's wife to keep company to Melanie, she didn't feel lonely at all :) The food, and all, really great. Looking...

Beer Tasting Vaguely Like Weak Vegemite

Hi, I would second this. 24C looks like on the high side. Around 20C is good to minimize off flavours. Cheers, Laurent

    Extract Brewing In 15l Stockpot

Hi, that's a good price for SS pots. All my extract recipes are formulated for a 7l boil and top up to 15l. So far, it's been really good. The bonus is faster cooling down since there's less liquid. The minus is slightly more hops to get the same bitterness. Everything else, I keep the same...

    Honey Wheat Beer

I agree the article on BYO is an excellent read. But it's possible to avoid being overly cautious. Most of commercial honeys are heated before going in the pot, so somehow the sanitary conditions are not that bad. Maybe I'll change my mind on my first infection... :)

    Honey Wheat Beer

Yep, I use honey regularly to prime directly in the bottle (PET). 1 tea spoon / 300ml. That's quite unconsistant but so far, I've got no infection, no disturbing honey flavour and I reckon it does carbonate faster compared to carb drops. I buy from my local health food shop from a bulk tank and...

Style Of The Week 16/8/06 - Belgian Dubbel

Hi Doc, from some online Belgian stores on HB, it seems that the Stuff comes in 2 shapes: Rock and Liquid. See here: Brouwland Candi Sugar page Looking for more information on the sugar, the Belgian legal system states as follow: Inverted sugar: less than 50% inverted sugar in dry weight...

    Australian Draught

Hi Ben, have a look at this malt conversion calculator I've posted on another thread: Malt Conversion Calculator You just enter the amount of grains and it gives the equivalent in LME or DME. On a side note, today your longneck count is over 350. That's about 260l of beer... I'm deeply...

    Tea Bags

Hola, yes indeed. Last batch, I used some bags of Chamomille/Orange/cloves/... herbal teas from Lipton. They were called 'Orange gardens' and 'Chamomille courts'. I've used 7 or 8 in a tea, then tipped in the fermenter (15 litres). Good balance, just a subtle aroma which is what I wanted. Don't...

    Who Filters Their Brewing Water

Hi All, great topic. We live in Sydney and used to drink tap water. Since we bought a counter top water filter, the water became really tasty and I noticed we drink more water and the beer tastes better, but this maybe a combination of things. We use it to wash vegetable and for cooking too...
