Two methods i know of for adding yeast nutrient are,
1. With the whirfloc tablet @10 and,
2. In with the yeast starter.

Although i cant comment on performance between the two as ive only tried the first instance. Was wondering which one, if either, is better and why?

Cheers guys.

As long as "in with the starter" doesn't mean "in the rehydration water", the yeast don't care when the amino acids are added as long as they are there when they are needed.

I use a tiny pinch in my starters, and add about 5 gr more to the boil kettle 10 minutes prior to flameout.

Yeah sorry LbC i should've specified more. I meant the starter in the flask on the stir plate.

Like Warra, I usually use both methods. Always the kettle addition, mostly for the starters.

I don't think you can substitute an addition in the flask for a kettle addition. Ie, I would not put a 25L amount in a 3L starter... can't imagine that is a good thing for your lil' yeast buddies. Tiniest pinch, if at all.

Cheers guys appreciate the feedback.

Sanitise all equipment within an inch of its life but add a tiny pinch of nutrients along with all other wild-yeast and bacteria living on your fingers..

OT but that's one reason I don't use gelatine anymore - skanky smelling concoction made from cow hides that's been in the cupboard for months, take out a spoonful, you can't boil it or it gets denatured, and goodness knows what bugs are lurking in it.
