I've been using wyeast nutrient for 4+ yrs.
I used to buy the 1.5oz tubes with green lids for about $5.

Recommended dosage rates used to be:
1/8 tspn per pint for propagation
1/2 tspn per US5gallons wort

I noticed with the last batch of vials I bought, that the packaging has changed, and more importantly the recommended dosage has doubled to:
1/4 ptsn per pint for propagation &
1 tspns per US5Gallons wort

effectively doubling the price !?

Anybody know why?
Scotty (///) ?

BTW: The Wyeast website still has the old dosage rates on it.

Rgds,
Peter

At a guess, the four possibilities could be

1. That Wyeast have discovered, through their lab testing, that the old original dosage wasn't effective enough to do the job it was supposed to.
2. They may have just added 1/2 as much active ingredients, with the other half just being "filler".
3. They may have not changed the active ingredients at all and just want us to use more of it (secretly "doubling" the price).
4. It may just have been a error in the printing of the labels.

I'll be interested in seeing the outcome of this query. I used to use the nutrients myself, but haven't been bothered the last 1/2 dozen times. I've got a couple of satchets of yeast left over from my kit'nkilo days, that I may just boil up with my starters, as I have heard that they work somewhat as yeast nutrients when boiled with the wort.

Cheers :)
