You didn't just "+1" about art, did you?!

I forgot to add one to my list:

Bullitt. Steve McQueen. Just one of the coolest movies ever. And the best car, and with the best car chase. Watch it on DVD and turn the sound up until the room vibrates and resonates. Wow.

Seen 1guy1jar yet, Butters? SWAP.avi might also be of interest.

(I assume no responsibility for anyone who seeks these out. You know the context. Don't do it.)

Gotta say, Shawshank Redemption is one of my all time faves.

The Back to the future trilogy is certainly worth of a re-watch as well.

Cheers

I forgot to add one to my list:

/Bullitt. Steve McQueen/ snip/And the best car, and with the best car chase.

You think so? ... have you seen the original, 1970's version of 'Gone in 60 Seconds' ?

I'm not even a revhead, but some movie car scenes rock ! Tarantino's 'Death Proof' was a recent example of vehicle/s playing a fine supporting actor's role.

To the theme of the whole thread, I would also like to add:

The Big Lebowski (thanks Pete... dude)
12 Monkeys
Requiem For a Dream

And recently, Slumdog Millionaire, of which I have seen twice. Although to call it a 'favourite' is a bit discomforting. These lists/discussions always come up, and people sometimes drop a new(ish) movie as a fave. For me, any given personal nomination should stand the test of a few years, and if you can revisit the film and love it as much (or more) then it deserved the tentative title.

In five years from now, I think The Onion Movie will not make my list. But f**k that's funny shit for right now, in the year 2009. Only time will tell. Slumdog probably won't be in that list either. The first three I listed are likely contenders for interest longevity.

Renegade, the final 25 minutes or so of Death Proof is AMAZING but the rest is pretty much garbage. Sorry, Quintin is my homeboy but the rest of that film is worthless. Every Grindhouse trailer is better than the rest of that movie. That last scene is genius, none the less.

Also, those looking for awesome car movies - Vanishing Point is fantastic and referenced (raped) in that brilliant final scene from Death Proof.

As for Slumdog Millionaire...God, I want to punch that movie in the face. I love Danny Boyle when he is working in genre film but everything else is terrible. This movie is so heavy handed. And goes against all logic. But then I know I'm in the minority here so it is probably me who is wrong.

Death Proof wasn't on my list of faves, so I can objectivly make review. And I agree with you. It's a clunky work - but I feel that it's the approach of the way it was done that's a selling point (well, not really a seller, but I digress). The grainy analogue feel of the cinematography, the free-wheelin' nature of the girls, that bootylicious bruinette grindin' to the jukebox vibes. It's all beautifully retro without coming across as contrived. B-Grade for sure, but I felt that was by design.

Haven't seen "Vanishing Point" (I domnt think) but for some reason it reminded me of a recent movie called "Wanted". That was a pretty sweet amalgamation of cinema ideas, all wrapped up into an edge-of-your-seat comic book style action vehicle. And it also hihlights that Angelina Jolie is pretty frikking sexy for an older bird who's inadvertantly a front-page-pin-up girl for a thousand trashy magazines per year.

See the trend ? I like tough, sexy chicks.

The third man. Powerful direction, incredible use of lighting and camera angles.
The Hill. Sean Connery at his absolute best. Gritty, brutal film, incredible acting all around. Roy Kinnear
Seven Samurai. Nuff said.
Yojimbo/Sanjuro. Mifune at his best.
The cruel sea. One of my all time favourites.
The 39 steps (Kenneth More version)
Bloody Sunday. Gripping.
Monty Pythons the Meaning of Life....especially the bit set in the third world. :p
The Closet (Le Placard). Absolutely hilarious. Especialy the oversized condom on his head...
Das Boot. Classic.

mmm, not one holywood film in my top 10...
