Hi,
Any hot tips on washing bottles?
What do people of think of using the dishwasher?
I believe that it's not a good idea to wash Champagne flutes in dishwasher - this generates a chemical bond on wall of glass - this prevents bubbles from "sticking" - drinks go flatte quicker

Is this the same for beer? I just finished washing 50 bottles by hand with bottle brush - what a pain in the arse!
I ask about the dishwasher as I will be moving house soon and will have a dishwasher

Thanks and apologies if this is a dumb noob question

Cut the plastic handle off your bottle brush. Stick it in a cordless drill. Squeeky clean bottles, FAST!!!

Have done this a few times - works alright

Best to give your tallies a rinse out after you top it off and mix some starsan and water into a spray bottle

Quick squirt and tip out, then leave upside down to dry

Rinse them well as soon as you finish the beer out of them. Drip dry and then store upside down (on a bottle tree if you have one). If they are clean when you store them they will only need a rinse with sanitiser before filling again.

I haven't scrubbed a bottle for years and use far less water than putting them through the dishwasher.

Nothing wrong with washing beer glasses in a washer.Hot water only,no detergent, let dry on a rack. All the judging glasses at Vicbrew are washed this way,and it's fine.

After I give them a good scrub I then do the same - bottle tree is a life saver here

I don't use a dishwasher for the fact it ruins the print on the glasses.

I use the pink powder to wash mine, they come out looking like new, smelling clean, and have never had a head retention problem.

If you need to crate store bottles, afternoon take them off the tree put a bit of foil or gladwrap over the top to stop dust getting in, then all you need to do on bottling day is remove the cover, sanitise and fill.

I sometimes wash my bottles in the dishwasher especially if they have been stored in the garage and have dust on them. But I use sod perc or PBW. It cleans the bottles and cleans the dishwasher.

I see sodium percarbonate is the active ingredient in napisan and other such oxidising agents and as powdered brewery wash is an alkaline cleanser http://cryptobrewology.com/home-brewing-tips/the-scoop-on-powdered-oxygen-based-cleansers/
what works better? I have read some info and now possibly more confused.....

Liking this idea Yob - common bloody sense. Utter laziness in just chucking bottles on the tree when empty has taught me a lesson....
