Can you please post some close-up shots of the extension and tap/valve that you put together please Tony? I have done some gas work before (mainly gaseous oxy on aircraft, but that was years ago). I reckon I might have to look at getting a mongolian if I can use the good old BBQ reg I've currently got, and can make my own extension for it.

i will take a photo of the hop basket and the bag and the burner pipe tonight and post them if i get a chance

The basket is home made from some SS mesh and the filter is from my work. Its used to filter the caramel colour that goes in coke to colour it.

I dont know if they are comercialy available.

Its rated for high temps which makes it perfect.

cheers

and the burner:

hope these help for now.

all the burner has is a couple of 1/2" BSP 1/2" pipe compresion fittings and a tap screwed into the end. then a reducer to 1/4" BSP and a fitting screwed in to atach to the gas line.

easy as crapping in bed and rolling over

cheers

Thanks mate. Thats a pretty good piccy of the extension pipe. Just what I needed. Somewhere along the line a while ago I got the impression you needed a high pressure reg to use one of these. I'm glad I was wrong, as the mongolian just got a whole lot more cost effective. How do you find the ball valve for adjusting the heat/flame of the burner?

The hop basket looks like something else I'll have to try and build. It's never ending is it? There's always one more gadget to build... :)

The tap adjusts the flame fine, being a ball valve you only get adjustment in the lower 1/4 of the taps full 90 deg but it works well. I could turn it down to a red flame that was flickering and throwing soot or a bloody after burner at full noise.

Speaking of noils, id does make some so dont expect the silent type like the 2 and 3 ring camping type burners.

Its nor too loud though, you dont have to raine your voice over it.

here is a close up of the tap, just cause i went to the trouble of taking it :p

cheers

Tried underletting today :) so so easy and works a treat :D AG #10 was as 'easy as pie' :super:

I tried underletting on Saturday for the first time too. Really fantastic. Less work brewing and less cleaning up afterwards.
