Found out some interesting information this evening.

It seems that Tooheys new is brewed at the West End brewery in Adelaide.

Well if this info is correct then it is fair to say that NSW are enjoying(cough cough cough) another beer manufactured in another state.

Other than the Opera house and Harbour bridge what does NSW really own???

Looking forward to the geers and cheers

HK :beerbang:

coming from someone with a victorian football on his signature..........

tooheys new is from...

the garbage truck! when all the garbage is loaded into the truck, the muck that drips out the bottom is tooheys new! If this is brewed is my home town I would be hiding that fact!

Just kidding. Personally I place tooheys new above VB by a long way, but below carlton draught as far as the mega-swill beers go. I used to be a tooheys new man and drank pretty much nothing else when at the pub. I will still drink it if there is nothing better (e.g. choice between tooheys new and VB). But if the choice is that dire I will try and steer the crowd to a new pub!

cheers

Swan Brewery in Canningvale WA (just around the corner from me!) also produces (other than Emu and Swan) Tooheys New, as well as Hahn Premium Light, Tooheys Extra Dry, and XXXX Gold.

It is also rumoured that the respectable Matilda Bay Brewery in fremantle is brewing VB for local consumption, which I wouldn't dismiss.

If it keeps production and transport costs down, then hey, there's a few more dollars to pump into the marketing budget!

Your info is slightly correct,

It is brewed in SA, however it is also brewed in many other Lion Nathan owned breweries. It is their highest selling beer after all, so demand must be meet.

Almost all production of Toohey's beers is done at the Lidcombe (NSW) plant - especially Hahn Premium, Extra Dry, Heiniken, Old, etc

There is talk of JS beers being brewed their shortly as well B)

i thought the jw amber & pilnser were already being brewed at lidcombe. thou there is talk of the pilsner being brought back to camperdown. but where would the kirin get brewed then ??? :)

the real question is why would anyone drink new in sa when u could get fresh coopers ??

Fair call,

But when ever anyone is offered free beer it is good beer, NO MATTER WHAT FLAVOUR, and if you dispute this you are lying, Kind of like the hand to gland combat thing. Free beer is the best tasting beer in the world. No matter how bad you think it is. We all have different tastes. But free beer is of course free.

At the moment Tooheys are doing a promotion, 60 pubs in 14 days or something like that. Each pub offers 60 free pints(schooners) and 25 free stubby holders designed for holding pint(schooner) glasses.

With the missus a non beer drinker I get 2 of each free of charge. Nothing to brag home about but something to enjoy before getting into the good stuff.

HK :chug:

Or maybe to swill after you've had a few of "the good stuff" and find yourself less discriminating? I mean that's just the way I'd do it... ;)

Tooheys New has unfortunately become part of my diet.

It's $1 a pint when you buy a schnitty at my Uni bar, and $3 a pint at other times; a definite option on a uni student budget.

It gets served SUPERCOLD now! Which is a good thing, it's too cold to chug at the start, but you can wait a bit, then it becomes cool enough to chug yet still cold enough to not taste :)

I usually put money aside for a CPA to enjoy slowly afterwards.

Got a free pint of it tonight and one of those stubby/glass holders; whoop de doo!

Sadlky, HK, I have to disagree
I am one of them terrible beer snobs that would rather drink water than drink something that I really dont enjoy. I know that there are too many good beers in this world (and even in my house) for me to drink stuff I basically have to force down. I even had a mate buy me a schooner of Bluetongue Lager a while back, and I had to put it down and go and by a JS amber. Anyone noticed ridiculous amounts of acetaldehyde in bluetongue beers? Anyway, even if it is free, I would choose to pay for something I knoew I was going to enjoy. Mind you, I live somewhere there isnt much nightlife, so I rarely go out.
All the best

I think there is a time and a place for every beer. I am tired of reading the diatribe about mega swill It is beer snobbery at its best. I personally enjoy most beer even some of the major brands. If I had a choice between great craft brews of course I would choose them but nothing beats and 4x Gold straight from the 18th Tee!!

Cheers, JJ

Oh yea I work for Lion Nathan :p

Not if the mega swill is so full of chemicals that it gives you a headache right away...

I'm not a fan of the bluetongues either, but refusing a shout in that way could be taken as an insult in some parts!
Yep, a megaswill beer tastes slightly better when it's a shout.

By the way, how great is the latest Tooheys New Ad? I wish they'd show it more. I've only seen it once.

No offence but this is a common myth, can you name any mega swill beers that are full of chemicals - not including the low carb norm alcohol beers?

For some reason people believe that Tooheys etc fill there beer with chemicals

I use the drink New and Hahn Premium, but since doing home brew I cannot touch new - lack of taste.

BTW JS is about the be dropped by Lion Nathan and will no longer be brewed at Lidcombe, so you will most likely find that JS beers will be harder to find and most likely the price will go up. They are just taking up room in the fermenting tanks at the moment, when great beers like New could be in there.........

Foam stabilisers to maintain foam despite high adjunct use, pre-filtering protein coagulators to save money in filter replacements, iso-hop extract to adjust bitterness post fermentation, colours to adjust for malt variation.

Did I miss any?

what i dont understand is how hahn super dry can say there are NO additives or preservatives.

surely there must be an additive to dry it out that much.

No offence, but in those situations I'll drink a softie, water or wine if it's available.

I'd certainly rather spend money on a good beer rather than drink a **** one for free.

There are of course some situations though where it may cause serious offence if you were to refuse the free beer. These are decided on a case-by-case basis :p Another time is if I haven't tried one before. If I've never tasted it (even if I have a preconception that it will be crap) I'll still give it a go. Doesn't mean I'll finish it though.
