Hi, Im planning on making my first stout.

I am going to start with Mangrove Jack's Roasted Stout.

What other ingredients could I use to make this great.

I was thinking adding LME, roasted barley & chocolate malt & dextrose.

I want to also make it quite hoppy? Can you make hoppy stouts? If so what hops would you recommend.

When bottling do I still prime with the same amount of sugar as I do when making a Pale Ale?

Thanks in advance.

Personally, I like a hint of hop flavour in my stout, traditional hops like EKG and fuggles with "earthy" and "spice" notes. Add them about 10 minutes as your stout will be quite bitter enough. I also love the flavour roasted barley adds - just be aware that it, and even more so Chocolate malt, will increase perceived bitterness in your beer, but if you drink it warm with about half the amount of priming sugar you would use for a pale it will tend to balance out.

Or if you think you are up to a partial mash, this turned out lovely: https://www.brewersfriend.com/homebrew/recipe/view/465243/irish-stout
