Quick update - I've heard back from the box people and it looks like I should be able to get samples made early next week to get sent over. Once I've verified those I can get final samples of the heatsinks (the mounting holes have to be aligned...)

I've received the relays I was waiting on and will be sending out three boards I've soldered up this weekend for some people to test for me. I'll also be running some tests - preliminary testing looks good (button controls and dry run). Exciting!

I need to order a set of samples of the fully constructed sample pieces from the fab house. Is there anyone who wants JUST a PCB, or already has a controller and would like a new PCB (I need you to test it as well so we can verify that the fully fabbed boards are good to go - I won't be getting these made until I get results back from the ones I've soldered up and am sending out, but it will within a week or two assuming testing goes well on these ones). Cost will be $70 including express delivery. I will have eight available. If you want one - PM me, first in best dressed. I'll post when they are all spoken for. If there are any problems with the boards (not expected) I'll replace them when I get the main batch done. Just to be clear - this is NOT a kit, just the controller PCB including LCD, no arduino.

Ok! - I've ordered boxes with holes, will take 2 days to make and then a few days to get here.

In the mean time I've been playing around with how to engrave onto the polycarbonate lid. Essentially... it can't be done. So here is two options - clear and silver inserts (the silver will have the LCD cutout in the right spot). Personally I think the silver will look tidier and more professional. Basically - you place the insert inside the lid (so the front can still be cleaned easily) and then do up all the buttons fasteners etc with the insert in, which will hold it in place. the clear acrylic is 1mm thick, the silver fascia is 0.6mm - both rigid enough they should stay in place nicely over time.

Clear - can see the inside of the box - geeky cool. Possibly safer as you can see anything go wrong by looking at it.

I quite like the transparent look, but would be very happy with either.

Just want to say lael, after reading the whole thread finally, you are one seriously impressive dude. People like you are essential to keeping communities going, like the brewing community. Without folks like you and the other folks on the board who make huge efforts on behalf of everyone, just out of their own personal interests (Yob is another who comes to mind, and there are many others) it's just commerce. It's one of the things that will make me a very proud owner of this controller.
