Brewzilla gen 4 ... Is it possible to mash without the false bottom and the HED plate?


I wanted to make a BIAB type wort, with a bag of grains inside the mash tube

Yes that would be no problem. If you are using a BIAB bag similar to this then nothing that can pass through the bag can get blocked in the pump.

With that said I find the false bottom screen really handy if you start to use heaps of hops. If you use loads of hops in the boil this can definitely block the pump. So when you pull out the malt pipe how much hops do you want to add?

Wouldnt you want the false bottom to stop the bag getting burnt by the element?

Keep the false bottom, forget the malt pipe and just use a BIAB bag

I tried this with the gen 3.1 and it buckled the false bottom due to the weight of grains.

Heavy duty false bottom would help this.

If you are removing the malt pipe putting a lot of weight onto the false bottom then we recommend you upgrade to this false bottom which is much thicker and can handle much more top loading:
