I haven't used the HERM-IT controller, so can't comment on how it functions, but it seems similar. Obvious differences - larger screen, removable power plugs, option to heat 2 elements, open source code can be modified to suit, and the new board has the potential for wireless using the spark core. That said, you have to build it and get an electrician to certify you aren't going to kill yourself or get an electrician to build it. (Seriously, 240v is no joke, be safe). From all reports I've heard that the Herm-IT controller is excellent.
