My reg is playing up... the needle "sticks" at the current keg pressure and I'll turn the reg several full turns before it finally starts to move.

When it does move, it's more likely to jump 100kpa or more.

The gauge is okay, moving the disconnect to different kegs, or releasing pressure causes the needle to behave predicability. So I *assume* it's the reg.

The faulty behavior coincides with connecting it to a new gas bottle... or very shortly afterwards anyway. Are the other reasons the reg is now playing up? Or can I service it somehow? (interwebs suggest not)

Could have been some crap in the new bottle connector. Remove reg and check the in line to the reg as may be something in there.
Cheers

Cheers - could be. I'll take off the bottle tonight and check.

If a replacement is needed, does anyone use the keg king dual gauge mk2 reg? Any issues?

Had a keg king one just as good as any of the dearer brands holds pressure stable and reasonably accurate. They sell spares for them now too

Have you got a one way valve on your gas line?

I have recently picked up a KK reg as a spare, when I gave it a test run the PRV was ****. a new PRV from KK for around $3 fixed the issue though, I'd suggest doing an in store test prior to walking out.

Can't comment on it's longevity performance at this stage however.

Might also be worth swapping the gauge out with another one on your existing reg to see if it is actually the gauge or the reg. (after checking if there is muck in it as suggested earlier)

Have had the gauge since March this year, no problems at all but check the PRV is done up tight.
Cheers

All good now - took it off, looked at it, gave it an experimental tap on the bench and put it back together...

Whatever.... it works ;)
