Hi, keen to utilize a spare fridge my landlord has in the garage i rent, rather than it just sitting there i may as well put it to use with my beer..

Have seen people mention temperature controls available on ebay for around $20, can somone link me to one, preferably one i can simply plug in and use without having to do any wiring etc. Not the most tech savvy person. Have seen ones that become a middle man between the fridge and wall outlet with temperature probe and thats exactly what im after.

Cheers

Dozens of threads here about them. Search for STC-1000

And amazingly, going to ebay.com.au and searching for temperature controller has dozens of hits for the item

Here's one :

You can pay over $100 for a ready-wired controller, or do it yourself, or get a mate to help. Its pretty easy once you get the right info

Cheers, is it as easy as clipping and stripping an extension lead and make the unit the middle man? If so, i can't see where the earth wires would be connected on the unit you linked.

Im afraid its a bit more than " is it as easy as clipping and stripping an extension lead and make the unit the middle man?" you will have to make 100% sure you have it all wired up right as you are dealing with 240V.

Saying that Im no sparky and managed to get one up and running, there are a couple of good wiring diagrams on here (lost the bookmark on my PC) have a good search and google it. If you do have a friend who knows electrics it will be easy for them to check.

Just did a quick search and I remember the following topics being helpful

Remember its 240V, it can kill you if you mess up

Use this diagram. If you can put round pegs in round holes, see in colour, put square pegs in square holes, use a screwdriver, a wire stripper and avoid cars while crossing the road ... you can wire one of these.

Cheers guys that's all dandy, understandable and no harder than some simple wiring I've had to do in the past. Thanks again..

I found on on ebay under digital temp controller delivered for $16.40 US + $9.90 shipping. no mention of STC-100 on the ebay site
Arrived in 12 days. STC-1000 marked on it in 3 places.

Went to Jaycar and brought the jiffy box, Female plugs, Male Lead (could have used extension cord), wire, wire joiner for about $30.

Well Worth it.

Say no more.......

Yeah true. I thought it was one plug for heating one for cooling but it appears one is heating one is a timer. Dam would help to avoid the effort of getting all the stuff together to make a controller.

Has any one seen one of these?

Has any one got one?

What do you peoples think?

Cheers,

Tom.
the photos are not Aussie single phase.. .. but it does say in the ad that they ship here.. so I think you'd be right to use it here.

Provided it is kosher .. i think it would be a better option .. than "home grown" sparkies wiring up their own STC1000 .. and cheaper too.

EDIT: after reading the follow-up postings .. i'm confused .. what is the second outlet for???

One socket for Heater, the other is a timer.
Don't keep fish etc.. but this could be used for a light or similar, say on for 12 hours, off for 12. That's my guess anyway.
