G'day to Everyone,

My first post on this forum (I think this is the most appropriate category for my query).

I'm still basically a beginner, having starting brewing April last year. I've now reached the point where it is clear that I need some sort of 'system' for storing my bottles (95% 'new' size Boags stubbies, 5% Boags Tallies). So far I've been using the original boxes that friends have saved for me - but even they can't keep up with my brewing any more :)

So, I was wondering how some of you store your bottles?

I was considering making up wooden crates, possibly to hold 30 stubbies each crate rather than the standard 24.
Perhaps some of you know of some decent quality plastic crate/boxes that can be easily bought? (I'm in Tassie)

Anyway, looking for some ideas or suggestions on the above.
Great forum, lots of interesting discussions here, thanks for any ideas!

Regards,

Wayne

A lot of people use milk crates. Easy to stack and you don't have to make them yourself.

i use the Nylex black recycle bins + made lids out of some spare ply i had lying around.... keeps all the light as well which is a bonus....

I made boxes out of 12mm mdf with the bottom about 60mm up the sides with holes to store and drain the empties 25 stubs to a crate or 15 tallies with different spaced holes in base

I use the plastic bakers trays. They hold 60 stubbies and stack nicely.

Glaab,

Your bottles look very pretty in the garden.

I use cardboard boxes (mostly from D Murphy's buys) and packing tape. Stored in the shed.

why thank you,.. they aren't keepers if that's what you mean, theyre for the recycler. I prefer to use the clear Tooheys Dry stubbies and Coopers longnecks but they were closer for the pic of the crate.

hey hey

I find polystyrene boxes (the ones they store grapes in at the markets) very handy fits 24 stubbies or 24 longnecks easy and they are easy to stack. I used the old boxes from beers slabs but they eventually gave away and thats when I got the polystyrene boxes.

My dad uses the styrene boxes as well. I then take my original stubbie boxes to him with a fabricated aluminium tray underneath to help them survive. This works for both of us. My stubbie boxes then go on a bookshelf near the fridge.

Russell.

Thanks for all the ideas everyone, most appreciated.
Kinda leaning towards making my own crates so far.

Get kegs. They're the best kind of crates. You'll curse yourself for waiting so long when you do finally get them. You'll stubborn and penny pinching :D

Kegs are:

Cheap
Simple
Easy to clean

...and will keep you brewing well and for a long time. I waited 2 years. Man, I felt like numpty for holding out so long
