G'day guys in the next few days I'm going to brew my 4th BIAB AG brew. Just doing a very simple IPA recommended by my LHBS. Recipe is:
5.6kg pale malt
400g crystal 20
Mash @ 64-65c for 60 mind
15g Warrior @ 60mins
50g each Citra, centennial and Simcoe @ flameout
Whirlpool then steep for 10mins

US 05 yeast ferment @ 18c

What do you all think? Are the hop additions ok??

That's gunna be a punchy brew, if you're brewing say around 20L. Definitely not a Session IPA, but tasty as all the same!

So all good? Punchy I want! Next will be Hop Hog clone.

Yeah, looks like a cracking recipe. How many litres are you making it to?
Cheers mate! It will be around 21-22 litres final volume

Thats a good recipe right there for a simple IPA. would have be thrilled to have that for my 4th biab....lol. for some silly reason i made a LC Pale ale with only 20ibu....WTF.

Good Luck!

Haha, I was smart enough to start easy, simple Cascade pale with what turned out to be a touch too much medium crystal.

Second and third I lost the plot, IIPA 9.4% 100+ IBUs and a trippel north of 8%. Good beers in their own right, but would be brewed considerably diferently these days, ie. 3 hop additions for the IIPA, not 7, and certainly none between bittering and 15 at the earliest.

On topic, it's be a nice beer mate, Simcoe and Centennial play really well together and the Citra should go well in the mix. Personally I'd up the flame out addition but I can go a bit silly on IPAs and they are all high alpha acid.

What are you planning for dry hops? All three or changing it up?

Cheers for that. I am planning on dry hopping all three but I'm open to advice definitely! Also I punched this into beersmith 2 it reckons only 24 IBUs?? Is this right for an IPA??

I've got 20g Warrior should I just out all in instead of 15g??

Does Beersmith do a decent job of calculating whirlpool IBUs, I would have guessed it would be more than that, Brewmate reckons around that 60g of 11.5%AA (your hops may average a bit higher, took a stab in the dark) hops is 37 IBUs for a flame out addition in 1.060 wort with the no chill box clicked (closest approximation I can think of).

For me that's not really an IPA but should be fine.

Up the bittering charge to compensate would be the easiest method, or throw in more late hops for a bigger hop flavour/aroma if you have them on hand, I mean, who doesn't like late/whirlpool hops in huge amounts.

I have no idea mate it's the first time I've used beersmith to get the numbers. It also reckons it's about 7% abv!! Is that right????

I'm on my phone but there is a good thread either here or in hops forum I think where there is some good info on ibus from flameout and whirlpool additions. They do decrease as the temp drops but based on your recipe I would be pretty surprised if your beer wasnt quite bitter.

I did read 50gx3 at flameout right?! Even based off a 10 min whirlpool, you might have 30 mins of heat > 80C. I think this is gonna be a nice beer BTW, some of my favorites in there.

Are you sure you've entered it into Beersmith correctly? I get abv of 6.2% and 60 IBUs with your recipe and hopping schedule. I get 25ibus from the bittering addition and 45 from the whirlpool hops. That should get you heaps of flavour.

I try don't know bud I entered it as whirlpool and dry hop etc but it's the first time I've used beersmith so I may have mucked it up. As long as it turns out great I'm happy as! I entered it in as I thought was correct and that's what came up but like I said I'm no expert with it
