Hey all,

I got a sestos pid and cheap ass sensor and cheaper thermowell.

the thermowell is a stainless steel screw that I have drilled out for the sensor to screw into.

I am stick of stuffing around with a thermometer and checking and missing strike temp mash temp ect ect.

can someone point me in the right direction of a good thermowell and sensor?

Cheers

Try here http://aussiehomebrewer.com/topic/72111-decent-temperature-sensor/ and let me know when you get it sorted.

this one looks like its to connect into a arduino or somthing

Dicko was right when he suggested one of these http://www.mashmaster.com/p/862990/-weldless-bi-metal-thermometer-3-dial-face--long-thread-for-esky-cooler-or-insulated-mash-tuns.html

not shure how to connect this one to my PID any tips?

Unfortunately the lure of a gadget seduced me into this http://www.ebay.com....01&cmd=ViewItem and this http://www.ebay.com....d=251268517204

these look better how did they go?

I've noticed that a lot of people use the STC-1000 probe and put it inside this

I'm thinking of doing this myself. I have just had my STC-1000 probe sitting in the beer, but my last brew may have got infected (I've yet to try it) and this is the main thing I can put it down to. Maybe something found a home in the little plastic probe or the rubber insulation around the wire. I'm guessing keeping a stainless steel thermowell spotless will be much easier than plastic and rubber. :)

Of course this is for a fermenter, but I can't see why it wouldn't also work for mash temp. For that though I just dangle the probe in the wort, seems to work nicely.

Yep that's what I have it's bolted to a SS T on the exit of my HERMS coil. You have to spend cash on such an important thing like temp sensor. Hits temps well! I would get the upgraded cable I have a home made equilivent and the $11 is money well spent.
