Considering his lofty average of 55, his last two series have been less than spectacular...

Well, if they stuck with Hussey for however many months (years) when he was batting horribly, they won't touch the captain.

Yeah but it is only test cricket. It's not like anyone will even remember the sport in 10 years.

Once again, the selecters seem to have complete inertia when it is time to tap past (repeat: past) good performers on the shoulder, and give them the heave ho. Captains seem to of the totally untouchable class once they are given the honour, until they themselves decide they can no longer stand the embarassment of continuing as a failure.

Ponting's decision to bat first in this test shows he is hidebound by what he has done in the last 25 or so tests where he has won the toss. Clearly the man no longer is capable of thinking along strategic or tactical lines.

Given his appalling form with the bat, it's time to get rid of him, and move someone else up.

Whatever... you shouldn't be entitled to an opinion. T20 will be dead in ten years. Long live test cricket...the worlds premier game.

but who the hell is there to replace him at 3? even with punter averaging 35 for the next couple of years he'll probably still go better than anyone around in the shield at the moment

Michael Klinger?

In the last 5 or so shield matches SA have played, he's averaging over 100...

Well, actually... the selectors have an excuse now - he's quit first class cricket, and good on him too. He'll make a killing in the various 20/20 leagues around the world. Most "20/20 whores", as I call them, are just in it for the money... Hodge at least has another reason for doing it, the selectors won't let him deservedly play for his country, so he's gonna stick it right up 'em.

Punter's on 46 not out now... 50's have been far and few between of late for him... and Clarke also.

How many centuries has been scored by Australia recently?

Local variations being pretty small, I'd say Australia as a whole has clocked up just over 20 centuries. Geez, it'll be a while 'till they get another.

Boom boom tish.
