Motueka pils

Lager - Bohemian Pilsner
All Grain
* * * * * 2 Votes

Brewer's Notes

5g each Calcium chloride, and gypsum in mash. 66c Mash for 1 hour.

Hops are all Motueka, and Vienna malt is Dingermans biscuit.

1.049, finished at 1.010.

S189, rehydrated, pitched at 15c, fermented at 12-14c for nearly 3 weeks, then kegged.

Motueka comes through beautifully and is balanced by the malt. Best pils ( or lager for that matter ) i've ever made.

Your recipe title caught my attention. Is there a motueka hop addition missing?

Oh I see. You're still updating it. I'm just too quick off the mark. I'll wait until you're finished... ;-)

Yeah mate, i used it at 60,30,15,10,5. Its balanced perfectly ( IMHO!! ) between malt and hops. Drinking very nicely.

ALSO, the vienna is dingemans biscuit malt, and the OG was 1.049, and finished at 1.010.

Mmmmm looks like a cracker mate! I'll have to give it a go when I get my BIAB urn setup in the next month or so.

BSaaz / Moteuka is a cracking pilsner hop in my book.

Mine was 90/10 pilsner munich. Bittering addition then 1.23g/l flavour addition at 15 (rounded, unless your scales are really really good), to somewhere between 30-45 IBUs, which is my standard pils recipe.

Mind you I quite like this hop generally.

I've used it as a late addition, with Green Bullet for bittering. I've dabbled with American hops recently but always go back to Kiwis.

Guys. Tried this again today down Marks. Bloody ripper.

Well, some fans of Motueka here!!. Im definately a fan of this hop hehe. And also JW export pils.

FG, it was my mild, or my pils for BRD. Knowing how many ale fiends there are in the club, i took the mild. We really should bring more lagers to IBU events. Plus, i don't think the pils would go any good on the engine!!

Thanks shane, have to brew some more soon :icon_cheers:

Get that handpump lubed up: linky :)

I think there are a few UK micros doing it now.

I'd try it, but im not sure i'd brew a batch of lager to put on an engine. But im an ale sl*t, and i love hand pumped ales hehe.

Hi!

There are a few UK micros and at least one regional Brewery doing 'Cask lagers'...

I've tried two and they are pretty good! Although some complain that its not served cold enough its served at cool cellar temps about 8-10C Although one I tried (Wychwood) was at 12C!
You can actually taste the hops and malt at this temp in what is otherwise quite a light lager...

Can't say I'm tempted my self, as I usually have my HB lagers & Pilsners bottle so I can drink them cold and well carbed up and eat with Pizza and Thai food - cut straight through the cheese!

Nice :D

I will give this Motueka Pils a go as this excellent Kiwi hop is now fairly widely stocked in the UK

:)

Cheers!
