Has anyone tried this kiwi hop?

A description from our sponsor:

Rakau hop pellets organic. NZ - Crop '08 (AA 11.5%)

Suitable for use both as bittering and aroma. Developed as a true dual purpose variety typically with alpha acid above 10 % delivers soft bitterness through low levels of Cohumulone less than 25 % of alpha acids. Can be used for multiple gift additions with late hop character delivering tropical fruit aromas of passionfruit and peach. Quite high levels of oil with an H/C ratio typical of classical aroma varieties. This variety has a lot of typical New Zealand fruity character so would be best suited to new world styles of ale and lager such as Pales and "big" IPA's.

What can I say... new hops excite me. Have ordered some to take out for a spin but in the meantime would love to hear other people's experience with this variety.

You send me some of your stash Kai and I'll let you know :p .

Seems to be more and more hops coming from NZ now which I reckon is great for us mob.
I just stocked up on B Saaz and Pacific Hallertauer so unfortunately wont be trying the Rakau in the immediate future.

I've got some as bittering in my Saison, just cos it was either that, Amarillo or heaps of Saaz.

Gonna try an ANZAC IPA using Rakau and Galaxy next up.

I'm keen to hear feedback as well, not had any so far even though we've sold a fair few packs...

cheers ross

Its in Roger Mellies WA case swap beer, so check the tasting thread once more people have tried it. So far I am the only one to try it, and I thought it was a bit one dimensional, very peachy stone fruity.

Thanks GL, I was hoping it was leaning away from the passionfruit element. Will give it a spin sometime in the next few weeks.

I tried it in an IPA a mate made, about 70 IBU's and 7%, they were ok, I definately wouldnt say passionfruit... Sort of boring compared to other NZ hops, tropical fruit but I couldnt quite put my finger on what sort of tropical fruit... I would pick Nelson Sauvin over this any day personally.
