Acidic mashes will attack aluminum probably forming different inorganic products. Probably nothing too serious to worry about, but stainless is naturally better due to its resistivity to chemicals.

...my tun can beat up your tun!

I thought the corrosion was al-ox, which was harmless, and the alzheimers thing isn't even worth arguing against...

The end result of ozidisation is corrosion. Corrosion is the pitting where the metal has disappeared.
There is not that many fittings and for the extra couple of bux, consider SS to be your friend!

I cant even remember why I mentioned Alzheimer's  , now where did I put my daily checklist for life?

Try this way, less connections ;)

Container --> bulkhead (1/2", male thread on outside) --> TP 1/2" ball valve (female-female) --> type F camlock (male-+male)--> type C camlock (female with tail) & hoseclamp --> hose to rest of system

Dammit, those prices are cheaper than what I paid I think <_< and I thought that was cheap!!

Cheers

Sully,

What's the minimum clearance needed to operate a camlock (With the rings taken off & allowing for your fingers) next to a vessel?

TP

Edit ---- Should have made myself a little clearer ---- Imagine ball valve to be at right angles to the bulkhead fitting on the vessel.

A couple of pics to make it easier to explain, besides just woke up and head is a bit foggy  . I leave the rings on as its easier to close them.

Hope these help. if not I will get back to you later.

Cheers

What about the Yellow plastic CamLocks?

Would they be a cheaper suitable alternative to metallic types of fittings?

10 mm should do it, dependant on how fat your fingers are (or stump is, if you have no fingers) :icon_cheers:

I'm with Pumpy, I just use Pope brass hose fittings from Bunnings. Nice and easy, one hand operation although they do get hot.

I use them too Steve but the silicon hose from Craftbrewer has a slightly larger outside diameter than normal hose and tends to slip off the screw clamp due to being the wrong size. I was looking for something a little more reliable.
